Hi folks

I need a bit of a fix before the PMDG 777 arrives and I was seriously thinking about the PMDG MD-11 and wondered if anyone had any direct experience? I really love the PMDG 737 and Aerosoft's Airbus X ( for different reasons) and put the PMDG 747 on the back burner because there will be a new version at some stage (but is that a mistake?).

Any thoughts?

JJ

Hi Mate

I myself purchased the MD-11 to tie me over until the NGX was released laugh.gif Its a great aircraft but bear in mind it was made around the FS9 era and she's starting to show her age but that should not stop you from going ahead and buying it. Its vastly different from your standard Boeing layout mind you and can seem overwhelming and daunting at first but the MD-11 is incredibly automated so much of what you see on the overhead doesn't need to be tinkered with, Just getting your head around the MCDU (FMC) will probably be the only stumbling block if you are used to flying Boeing.
I spoiled myself and purchased the MD-11 training from Angle of Attack and it made an immense difference in how i fly her.
I'm just assuming here but i take it you like flying your heavy's? might i recommend the PMDG JS4100...now this is a fun we A/C fast and slippery and prone to cooking itself if you don't manage her right. perfect for visiting those smaller airports around a Orbx New Zealand wink.gif

Hi Chris

Thanks for your comments. Really useful.

I am indeed keen on the heavies! Currently fascinated with the MD-11 because it's different and looks absolutely stunning, especially with the McPhat textures. I've taken a quick look at the AoA training and it looks very slick, definitely something to think about.

I did look at the JS4100 as well but put that on the back-burner for some reason, I think I got distracted by the QW 146, which I haven't bought either. Ah, decisions, decisions!

I've been giving some thought about your first reply and i highly recommend going with the MD-11. Although there is a part of me that screams at you to purchase the 747X because its the first ever payware addon i purchased for FS9 (and I flew that sucker to DEATH!) but like you said PMDG are at work on the V2 and eventually your going to end up with two 747's in your hanger so whats the point? and to be honest i think you might end up a tad disappointed if you did imho.
Last night i loaded up the MD-11 and 747 and gave them a thorough blowing out of cobwebs tongue.gif and came to the conclusion that the MD-11 still is the better bird when it comes to complexity and VC textures. And if you do go ahead and purchase some McPhat textures along with it you will have a match made in heaven thumbup1.gif

If you are after a MD-11 fix, then the PMDG is easily the best out there for that aircraft. There is no better, so the question probably becomes... do I want an MD-11 or not? smile.gif

Thanks Chris, Dean

Yup. I think MD-11 is the way to go. Now, how exactly am I going to clear a few weeks in the diary.

Chris, how did you find the AoA training. Sounds like it's worthwhile and I have seen the one preview on their site. Does that give me a good enough idea of what you actually get?

Many thanks
JJ

As far as I'm aware AoA of training is a good as you will ever get. The Md-11 training is good and laid out well, broken into 3 different areas. Getting started/procedures/flights.
Just make sure to cross off another couple of weeks because the video training isn't short by any means. :-)

Hi all

Thought it would be rude not to put a couple of flicks up of the new "bird" in town.....

Gawd Jay , I recall the DC-10 when it first arrived in New Zealand and spent many a long evening out at the airport as it went round and round and round doing touch and go's at of Christchurch , I only ever flew on the type twice one return trip from OZ landing on 20 in a Northwester ... one flight that has been left in my brain case for ever , it was great !

We got to see the MD-11 later , the Korean Air airline stopped in Christchurch many years later , the mid 1990s ... to see parked up in Sydney on the cargo ramp in 2001 during one of the YSSY airport tours .

I know. It's a bit spooky isn't it.

For some reason the first picture just feels so familiar. Something similar must've been used as a promo pic when I was a kid. That's what I remember to be quintessentially Air New Zealand. I paid £40 for her and she's a showing her age to be fair. Inside a weird combo of my NGX and the AXE!

Back in its debut days my brother built the 10 ... course i had to join the the party and build an ANZ aircraft - a DC-8 , both these were around a meter long and out of cardboard and paper mache , both went and tour the schools in the region , stayed in the entrance off Avonhead primary school assembly hall for the week on display , couple of smart ass kids back then even .. and both bloody plane nuts . biggrin.gif
