The Staggerwing has a good history here in NZ, there have been a few over the years including back in the late 30's and 40's.

Thanks for posting this Naki, I just got it! It is one of my favourite vintage aircraft and this model is AWESOME! smile.gif

After a few initial hassles downloading (4 x attempts), it's installed and working,.. urrr flying. Absolutely beautiful, easy to fly (almost stall-proof - it just kinda gracefully mushes at around 50-55 kias. No bugs that I have experienced, but you need to hand fly this bird: no GPS or autopilot (altho I soon fixed that with a quick bit of config editing). It's REALLY hard to see over the nose - almost impossible to land in the VC (quick reverse screen change to make the cockpit disappear just before landing).

Sorry guys and gals, I'm cheating: I pasted the autopilot specs, GPS and AP from the default C172 which works great if you prefer those things. I LOVE THIS PLANE!

Pretty cheap too - just a bit over NZ$25 and about a 89 MB ZIPped file, but virtually no documentation at all (easy enough to get checklists and info elsewhere tho).

Sadly the real one mentioned earlier, a very rare G model, belonged to the late Eric Hertz, CEO of 2Degrees, who was killed with his wife Kathy, several weeks ago when his Baron crashed into the sea off Raglan sad.gif

LOL am putting her through some tests as I write comparing to the real specs. Alabeo have done a really great job, weights, performance etc are pretty well bang-on (unlike some Carenado aircraft) - just seeing if she'll climb to her max ceiling of 25,000 ft. Am using the flight notes from the default Goose and Beaver as they have the same engines - so far so good. Have bumped up the cruise climb specs to about 1.2 (most of them need this for realistic ceiling performance and slightly lower stall speed) and have knocked back the pitch stability from 1.0 to about 0.6 as there's some bad shaking at around 140 kts (flat out it's supposed to do around 184 knots - which it does) - could have been caused by my autopilot addition hehe. All good! Am gonna have hours of fun out of this wee bird me thinks smile.gif

(And I've learned how to crank the seat up and down (eyepoint) yayyyy! smile.gif - I can see over the nose now!!!! Just have to figure out how to do a screen grab on the Mac Laptop running Windows ;-/. It doesn't have a "print screen" like a full PC keypad. (Frame grab in the Mac mode is easy) grrrrrr :-/

Holding steady at 300fpm, 87 KIAS @ 16000 ft - this is going to be a very SLOW climb (maybe with just pilot and almost empty tanks it will do it??? time for a coffee! biggrin.gif

I actually found a full POH for the military/navy versions (basically identical) here:

http://www.avialogs.com/index.php/en/aircr...-airplanes.html

Also, here are the factory specifications:

Awesome find, thank you gojozoom! Have bookmarked this site for future reference. I had everything BUT the fuel flow consumption and most of my re-doing of 70's - current aircraft came from FLYING Annuals. (No Staggerwing tho, which I managed to get most of the info from other sites) winkyy.gif

Auckland Aero Club did operate one back in the 1940s. Not aware of any others in NZ in that era though.

No it was definitely a Staggerwing, it was also taken over by the air force during WWII, not sure what happened to it after that, I believe it returned to the club at least briefly and I have a vague feeling it ended up going to Australia.
