Just incase anyone would be interested in these, and haven't seen my posts elsewhere, here is a RNZAF and an RAAF repaint, which I have created individually for both Warbirdsim's "Little Friends" product, and Warbirdsim's "P-51D Restored Part 2" product.

First up, NZ2406. Here are the two different download links, depending on what product you have/you want the repaint for.

For "Little Friends": http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/loca...915&catid=3
For "Restored Part 2": http://www.mediafire.com/?eaiz7c66i49e46c

And this is the RAAF repaint, which happens to be A68-1, the first Australian P-51D/CA-17 Mk.20

For "Restored Part 2": http://www.mediafire.com/?78nrv4ws7mwfhfn

On another note, what is all of this reference to "stop gap"? : ) All I have to say to those who are vocally expressing this idea, is that I hope you appreciate what competition brings you in the end (if that end is worth it), with what you otherwise would be waiting for had there never been the Warbirdsim P-51D's/K's in the first place.

Lol, I simply can't pull myself out of the new Duxford scenery for too long - it is just too great, and provides such an excellent backdrop to any warbird - though some of the NZ2406 screens were shot while flying above Marlborough/out of Omaka. ; )

It takes a lot of work/time to try and tell a rather complete story of the P-51D/K - the release of "Little Friends II" actually has come nearly exactly a year after the release of the very first set of Warbirdsim P-51D's. As I've expressed elsewhere, I'm moving on into a completey different type of aircraft now, both in convention and maker, but it will be another WWII era fighter, which has been sorely missed in the FS2004 and FSX skies. I should have details/early images before Christmas. ; )

I do like the 'Another WWII era fighter' cool.gif , both in convention and maker , I guessing you will be keeping it American , three fit the bill were you can get access but one that was used in great numbers - fighters , trainers , tank-busters - in all theaters by many countries , the Bell P-39 Airacobra ? cool.gif

Wow, you are very, very good, Ian! Yes, it should be a fun project for me to do, and I hope it will be well received - used by the USAAF, RAF, France, and other countries, with of course the largest sum (if I recall all of the numbers correctly) being used by Russia (with really incredible results - aces who tallied, individually, 40-50 enemy planes shot down, each, all while flying the P-39 - I almost consider it a Russian fighter, used by other nations. : )). There hasn't been an Airacobra developed since FS2002, and not a 'proper' one, by current definition.

Thanks John smile.gif , think we all have this history and to learn , the build with a P-51 is amazing , it to follow the one that sorta get left behind , the 39 , Chuck Yeager,s and recent mention of Bud Andersons trainer , would have grin's to no this one is to be made .

The type would be well recieved i would think , a nosed gear with engine in the back ... lotta work but very cool cool.gif

Good choice... I guess we FS9ers won't see many more "New-builds" like this, unless it can easily be parallel made with Lionheart's extended poly techniques for FS9.
One can dream... amazing aircraft, and deserving a fresh look in flightsim, for sure.
I never did figure out where the propshaft (apt term, eh?) runs - between the pilot's knees??

See , there you go John , So many aeroplane WWII specialist and realist Plane Nutters here alone in New Zealand , and as Charl pointed out the propeller shaft ... ok not sure you invented the idea but put your Trouser Sleeves in ya Socks tongue.gif

Charl,

I have actually been contimplating (seriously) if buidling an FSX and FS9 version of the -39 would be feasible, both at the same time (I also have to start thinking about "Flight" as well). I'll probably try to do both, with that aim from day 1, but if it becomes too much of a problem, I may have to just focus on the P-39 for FSX alone (at least first).

The problem is of course time involved - in order to make the most of an FSX aircraft, the textures should be made at a resolution of at least 2048x2048 or larger, which FS9 doesn't support, so two different texture formats would have to be created, which also requires re-mapping the model in the process (two quite lengthy processes on their own). The texture materials, as assigned within the modeling software, are also different, between the FS9 and FSX models, so all of the materials would have to be made new and assigned to all of the parts over again. I have had experience with the work-around for the more detailed/higher quality FS9 models, as I used that method when I built the FS9 P-51B/C's - though it gets to be a headache after a while, since it is a multi-step thing. In general, building for FSX produces better results, and more easily, so that is really why those that get into development for FSX, can't really see the benefit in going back to FS9. Making an aircraft for both FS9 and FSX, is almost just as time-consuming as making two completely different aircraft, despite them being the exact same type. With the numbers of individuals who still use FS9, many of them FS9 alone, it could possibly be a worth-while venture.

About the propshaft on the P-39 and P-63 The propshaft runs along the middle of the cockpit floor, just above it, between the pilot's legs (though at a height no higher than his feet). There is a tunnel-cover over the top of it, though it is simply a curved-piece of aluminum sheet. The base of the control stick actually has to straddle the propshaft. The propshaft leads up to a gear box in the very front of the nose, as the cannon runs directly through the center hub of the propeller/spinner, requiring the prop to be geared around the cannon to the propshaft.

Having talked everyone's ears off over the last year about all kinds of different P-51D/K's, I look forward to being able to start fresh on a new topic, lol. ; )

As I mentioned above, a first look at this new project should come before Christmas.

Designed around that cannon, alright.
A real forerunner of the A-10 if you think about it...

John thank you for your thoughts, I do hope an FS9 model sees the light.
I'm sure it "fits" very well with what the FS9 simmers are doing.
I'd even take it to Duxford!

Splitpin, thank you very, very much for your compliments on the screens and the planes themselves, it really means a lot to me!

Here's another repaint, this time for Warbirdsim's P-51D-5-NA "Little Friends II" product. When activated, it should be available here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/loca...amp;linkid=4939 and at Flightsim.com

It is really weird to have have gone so many years thinking of these fighter pilots as having been older than me when they were flying off into combat in these aircraft, but now that I am 24, it is really something to now think that so many of them were younger than I am now, that I would actually be verging on being one of the older guys. Major Richard Peterson became a Major at only 21, in 1944.

You can also look the historical photos ages 18 to 24 and they look 10 years added to them , its the mixture off the B/W photo and heaps of hair cream .
