I just sat through them both. They really are *totally incredible*. I can't imagine how many thousands of man hours went into this!

Any ideas on release date and pricing yet?

If I remember rightly, the PMDG 737 comes with a 3500 page manual. That alone would stop me buying it, just far too detailed and too complex for a simpleton like me to manage. I just do not have the time and patience to learn all the systems on such a detailed aircraft. Plus I want an aircraft that I can get up into the air in about 10 minutes, rather than the 45+ minutes that a 737 start up and FMC programming would take.

Very nice, but I will stick with the GA. There will be some who will love it, but not for me.

smooth landings.

Hey HT, yeah the 3500 page manual/s wont be free either, retail price $330us by the looks:
http://www.precisionmanuals.com/ProductCar...p;idcategory=20

Despite the complexity, I'd say if you have a familiarity with well modelled boeing cockpits that are avail already (Wilco73, CS, PMDG, iFly etc) then you wont have any trouble getting the PMDG up and running without having to much additional reading. Seems more that if you want to take the time to fiddle and simulate failures etc then you can, but you should be able to do the basic flows and get in the air. Anyone know if there's a "Realism" setting in the NGX to help there?

The 3500 page manual set in PDF form will come with the aircraft (i.e. 'free') - they are the actual Beoing manuals. Will also come with PMDG authored tutorials to get started....

If you ask me (I know you didn't! tongue.gif ) there will be a whole lot of 'set and forget' features on this plane (ie you'll set the night lighting and panel set up as you like it once, and then forget about it)
Once you are up to speed with a 737 it certainly isn't 45 minutes to get one up and running. They are fairly simple compared to earlier models of 737. Flight plans will likely still be able to be imported if in the right format to help save time. I'm sure you will still be able to load the plane with the engines running too.
Many of the 'amazing' features on this plane are quite simply things you're not going to use all the time. Things like the F1 ATR having a flushing toilet, who out there has the plane and actually uses that? PMDG have gone to great trouble to get it as accurate as the real plane on many features, but to be honest some seem a little pointless at times smile.gif
(don't get me wrong, I love what they've done! It's going to be a great plane)

It's funny, all this ... as I'm usually a real button pusher. This one (which I'll find hard to resist) is knob-twiddling-nirvana - but will it be "a bridge too far" - even for me?

I also have to ask myself "what's the point" of so much detail. Am I going to buy a [real] 737NG for my private airline? Am I training to be a real airline pilot? Of course not, but we all like to dream - and I often wonder whether I could have "made the grade" going down the CPL/ATPL route all those years ago instead of settling for earth-bound graphics.

Similarly, how many of us have climbed into our virtual Spitfires and imagined changing the course of history (ie. by losing the Battle of Britain laugh.gif)?

The amazing thing is (though we have to see if it will actually perform on your average PC) that FSX has the capacity for pure "basic" fun - with Heidi and the Cub - as well as being able to perform what looks like almost full-blown ATPL training material.

Being a bit of a nerd - and having a complete book case of web/databasing manuals to prove it - the prospect of a 3500pp manual fills me with glee! Maybe I should get out more winkyy.gif

Whatever you say, it's a simply *awesome* achievement - technically and graphically. Hats off to them.

I seem to have a large hit on my bandwidth yesterday (about 2 Gig) which I can only put down to watching this video ......

Has anyone else noticed this.....?

I'm wondering if I have a problem somewhere.

Bazaa, there is a lower-res copy to save on bandwidth, toggle the 'HD' button on the bottom right if you watch any other AoA vids.
I signed up for the AoA aviator90 training a few months back and ate my cap pretty quickly till I noticed that

Bazza - I downloaded the video, it is just over a gig so yes that will be the main culprit ...

Alister - Ryan said in a post on the PMDG forum that the procedures in one of the tutorials he is writing will get people into the air in about 5 minutes on any flight provided they load the plane on the runway with engines running, so certainly there will be a right way and also an easy way smile.gif
