Addon Recommendation?

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby SeanTK » Fri Jan 21, 2011 11:01 am

Hello!

Just wondering what the consensus here is on Carenado's Cessna 185 (bush version) for FSX? Among other aspects, what's it like on system resources?
Noticed two ZK- registered liveries for it available on the Aussiex website, and I'm interested in getting another low and slow fixed-wing since my Flight1 BN-2 Islander is heavier on resources than I expected.

Any other light aircraft recommendations out there? I'm also a big helicopter fan, and have a few Alphasim/Virtavia helicopters, as well as Cera's Bell 212.

Thanks!

I have the Carenado 185...whilst good and I fly it quite a bit - I have three other light aircaft I like just a little bit more...Ants freeware Tigermoth (which I guess you have), Ant's payware Tecnam and Sibwings Birddog - the immersion factor on all three are great.

The Tecnam is quite cheap and offers more features than the 185. It is slower than a 185 but suprisingly fast for a ultralight - the handling is also "snappier" as is the real thing. The instruments in the Tecnam are superior and the whole model is just that bit tidier.

The Birddog offers similar flight performance to the 185 but IMV the texturing (including some nice weathering), sounds, instruments and VC are superior. There are also ski, amphibian and floatplane versions of the Birddog with the model.

The Tecnam and Birddog come with NZ schemes in the inital download and there are other NZ repaints available for both.

Both offer good FPS within my system - certainly equal (and maybe superior with the Birddog) to the Carenado 185

SeanTK, have a look at this thread:

http://nzff.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12384

some other info that might be of use to you. I personally think it is a good payware addon, not too far from the real deal which is not always the case with sim aircraft.

As for the helo's, you can't go wrong with the Cera 212. I wonder how the new Aerosoft UH-1H will compare?

Forgot about that thread Scrubcutter ..nice little thread.

I would also add that Ant's Tecnam had substantial input from a NZ Tecnam pilot (who's a member here) and it's his scheme on the model..obviously if are going "bush" the 185 and Birddog would make more sense.

+1 for the Tecnam Sierra. Nice aircraft. And the Carenado stuff is generally pretty good too. C185 is certainly worthy of the money.

Sean
If you buy the 185 be sure to add the optional patch by Bernt Stolle and Glen Davy. They took the original effort and made it a lot more like the real 185.

Will do. I'll very likely end up getting the 185 but I'm still going to wait until the Aerosoft Huey comes out just in case. winkyy.gif

Olderndirt, is that patch compatible with the "bush" version?

The Tecnam isn't out of consideration yet, but I'm leaning more towards the 185 due to the float/ski/large tire capabilities.

Even better, Bernt just released his 'ultimate' flight dynamics update for the Carenado FSX 185. I've flown it - excellent. Available at http://www.bushpounder.com/news.php

Because the bush version came out later it was released with the improved flight model sp no need to patch that one

The FDE linked above is a new FDE and has a separate FDE for each 185 version (ie float, ski etc)
