Engine tuning....

Hi all,

Just wondering how to "increase" the power of a piston engine in FS2004. The Flightsim3D Cessna 140 is a bit under-powered in my opinion. It can hardly reach its cruising speed with 100% power settings, half tank fuel, no passenger, no baggage. I'd like to increase the "general" power output by about 10%. Can I do that in the aircraft.conf or I should tweak the air file?

look in its aircraft.cfg for these entries and adjust as you see fit ,

[piston_engine]
power_scalar = 1.0 //Piston power scalar

and..

[propeller]
thrust_scalar = 1.0 //Propeller thrust scalar

id change them to 1.2 to get close to what your after. Make sure you make a copy of the original cfg before you mess with it though !

I think this should also improve the STOL capabilities...I hope...as I use this classic bird for bush flying only...it's too slow for anything else....

Valid point...however after I purchased the model the first thing I did was to install an EGT gauge, so I could find the ideal mixture in every situation.

Adrian's solution worked very well. I was trying different settings, but the 1.2 was the best. More than that was pretty unrealistic.

What I do with my little Cessna 150, to get a little more power, is to fit a Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp motor up at the pointy end.... ...!

It makes her a little bit nose-heavy, but it works wonders for those ultra-fast take-off's, the sound is wonderful, and guaranteed to attract an admiring crowd.... ...!
