I have finished another Islander - for my friends in New Zealand this time:

...and I have a spot of good news for all Realair SF 260 fans:

Yes, I have been given permission to host the RAS SF260 paintkit - and with a few EagleSkinner modifications so that both FS9 and FSX models can be painted.

As usual, you can find these over at http://www.eaglskinner.com

EDIT: Typo corrected

I'm sure I have such a thing already! or is this a later release?
(And, erm, Chris...Eagleskinner has 3 "e's" thought you'd like to know winkyy.gif)

Ian, perhaps one could go along with a conditional order...give me the use of the Islander for nothing until you produce the VC I've already paid for?

Charl, if you refer to the SF260 PK, then the problem is that the Avsim version was lost during their hackattack. RAS weren't really too bothered to reload that PK, after all, it was for the FS2002 version. But it works in FSX with the change of panel textures and so I have got permission from Rob Young to publicise their PK once more.

Well that's great news for all SF260 fans from back then and in the future.
I imagined I had the original, otherwise where would these have come from? cool.gif

I reckon it's a difficult plane to create a catching paint scheme for...one of the nicest looking ones is quite plain:

It's a great pity the pilot figure cannot be painted to suit the livery.

I have a picture of that (not mine) - Ill post it when I find it.

I have spoken to someone who owned one in Sydney (he owned the Sydney Aerobatic School ..ex Sabre and Caribou pilot and ex Alpha test Pilot)) -- it was one of his favorite aircraft unfortunately somebody else crashed it.

No sooner posted than this joyous news from flightsim.com:

FS2004 SF-260 Customized Pilot
[ Download | View ]
Name: sf-260pilot.zip Size: 835,404 Date: 08-01-2010
FS2004 SF-260 Customized Pilot. Three new outfits for the Sf260 v2 pilot. He now sports a pair of turtleshell brown Oakley sunglasses and either a Red Ferrari shirt, brown leather jacket, or a Coogi sweather with white linen slacks. By Aaron Penn.

I don't know if this would transfer to the FSX textures.

It's perfectly 'orrible...water bedroom???
And further to my above post, I see the pilots are for V2 only, I have V3 which has no pilot as far as I can see.
Presumably applies to FSX version too.

The pilot in all versions is paintable:

...even down to the hairdo.

Like a yoyo I go, despair and joy and despair...more joy!
But I don't see the pilot in the paintkit!

That is because "he" isn't in the official paintkit.

You just have to take the pilot.dds texture and mask out the bits you want different colours. The paintkit only contains thos textures issued by the makers. Any "extras" have to be done by the individual painters winkyy.gif

Actually, painting the pilots clothes is really easy, so I never bothered making a PK sheet out of it.

Thinking I might have missed something, I did a fresh install of this model (FS2004 version)

I don't find a pilot texture...is it meant to be in each texture folder??
And, thinking about it, I don't see the custom pilot in your macon repaint - not in the textures supplied nor in the sim.

That's because the pilot is stealthy in FS9 ninja.gif In fact if I recall rightly, the pilot texture isn't even in the RAS folders. Search the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator 9\texture" folder for something like "pilot" or "RASSF260pilot"

Realair were doing their bit towards sorting "common files" even as far back as FS8. If a texture "x" is missing in the aircraft paint folder, there's an algorithm which makes FS search in other / default folders.

The reasons why my mug doesn't appear in the "Eagleskinner" paints are a: I didn't want to mess about too much with the user's non-texture folders, b: I wanted to keep my face to myself and/or c: I forgot to include the pilot texture in the upload...

As for the FSX version, the pilot is in the fallback "texture" folder.

EDIT: so based on those assumptions, you can have a different pilot texture in each aircraft paint folder

Yet one more reason I absolutely despise automated installers...
Anyway I have 768 "pilot" bmp's littered around my FS9 install, none of which seems to look like an SF260 driver.
I can only assume I upgraded from an earlier version, moved the plane to a hangar drive, and then orphaned the original when moving back.
Although where it's reading the stock pilot textures from is a complete mystery.
I shan't burn any more NZFF bandwidth with what appears to be finger trouble on my part...

OT If this looks complicated, just wait until the next Big Thing arrives.
Bill Ortis has just announced he has cracked the 65k poly count for FS9, pushing the limit to something over 1.3 million.
Compiled models hover around 10GB.
This means in theory you can model the widget inside the widget underneath, and each one will have a texture!
