Gidday all a little while ago i read someone had a FS* to FSX model conversion tool,..reason I ask is that I want to repaint Joe Binkas Grumman Widgeon into Tourist Air Travel ,Salt air and Aquatic & Vintage Airways Ltd but his model has a couple squares missing from the fron left and right fuselage and am hoping a conversion tool mite repair this which will then enable it to be used in FSX as well. here is a pic of the problem area. Have tryed contacting the author of the model but my emails just bounce back saying his email doesnt exist. His is the only model around and short of building one myself which if worst comes to worst I mite I would prefer initially to see if can be repaired ?. Im not going to repaint it if it cant be repaired as (and i know its selfish :-( ) but I dont use FS9 .

Hi mate

I would suggest if there is such a tool it has to be applied at the model level? I cant see any tool fixing a compiled fs9 model myself though I could be wrong.

I have the DXTBmp tool that you can use to do repaints prop fixes etc; it may be possible to use it to close the hole.
The DXTBmp tool Create 16 bit Extended Bitmaps for FS2000 and CFS2. Edit existing Textures in your favourite paint program. Edit Alpha Channels. Reads and writes 565, 555-1, 444-4 and DXT1. Sizes up to 1024 including non-square.
I have been using it with FSX and it works fine it can be found http://fly.to/mwgfx/

I have Addon converter X and it converts FS2002 and FS9 aircraft to work in FSX DX10 what it does is give you the livery colours etc; but it won't fill any holes or fix broken textures files.

thanks bud,.yep thats the tool i think ,..ill have a look at it thumbup1.gif . Dan, there used to be atool that fixed polygons for earlier versions of flightsim models and thought there may have been one that did something similar for more recently compiled models,..well hoping that is lol. Its a shame as the radial engined version that comes with the flat 6 engined version works perfectly only having to adjust the float points..,nice little models otherwise !

Yeh It looks as though the modeller may have cut away a polygon (maybe due to stress smoothing) and redrawn it but perhaps forgot to apply the required texture levels to it for FSX? Does it look OK with DX10 test turned off? If it does then its down to the texture levels applied, otherwise I would have thought he had drawn the poly back to front but then you would have the same effect in FS9??

Yep he has cut the poly out to use it as a transparency for the propeller warning decals, only the poly behind it uses the same bmp ?(DECAL_dangerprop.bmp)and also on thr right hand side it is not facing the right way either damnit,...I removed the alpha to solidify it and copyed a bit from the main fuselage bmp from the area where the poly is to maybe try stich it up and came up with this,..not alot can be done with it im afraid..real shame as I was keen to do the TAT livery with even pasting Fred Ladds face onto the pilot..."with a splash of spray and we're away ". Probably will end up repainting the radial engine version anyway ,..it wont look right but its better than nothing. I might have to make a Widge with the later model engines if I cant contact the author...another project to add to the list lol..
