Majestic Dash-8

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby Chairman » Sat Sep 05, 2009 12:34 pm

Hiya

I've been looking at getting this, and there's a couple of things I can't reconcile. Wondering if anyone here can shed any light.

- There are (old) posts on here talking about the freeware-port panel and sounds, but their website talks about "Every aircraft panel, used for the normal operation with almost every possible switch simulated" and "DirectX based sound engine, which does the close to real sound simulation for the propellers, engines and the environment".

- The Pilot's Edition has just been released, but seems to have also been around for donkeys years.

Presumably it's some sort of an update that has been released and the ported freeware panel and sounds were on a way old version, and but I haven't stumbled across anything that confirms that, and since this costs the same as the PMDG 747 I'd quite like to know before I splash out.

Thanks
Gary

Thanks Ian, much appreciated.

I think I'll save my pennies and wait for a decent airbus :-)

Hey Gary. Before you give up on the Dash entirely take a look at the following post over at vANZ where a few of our guys discuss and review the Majestic model.

Ty concludes that it's not worth the price, and the whole thread makes it sound as though he'd much rather be flying his ATR-72 but your virtual airline dictates that he has to put in so many hours in one of these first.

Not sure what sort of a recommendation that is for the Majestic dash - or for vanz !

But thanks for the link smile.gif

Pretty standard practice in VAs to have aircraft clearances based on hours, and there are other options for the Dash of course, the PSS, and the PAD for example

Gary,

The model of a Q300 is very accurately represented by the Majestic Q300. It is a handful to fly, the panel and sound packages are very basic and for the cost of the purchase I didn't think it was worth it for me. There is a lot you can do with it above just flying, and that is where the majestic model is really aimed. As a systems trainer it is very good but as a Flight Sim aircraft it leaves a lot in the asking. Would i buy it again? No, but purely because it is a model that simulates the systems and failures and not the flight dynamic. Did i enjoy flying it? Hard to answer, it was a handful and took some work to get used to but in the end i sort of enjoyed the challenge it provided. My opinion on buying or not? If you want an aircraft that has good systems and flight dynamic and is fun then get the Flight 1 ATR. If you want something to practice real life systems failures maybe. Short answer would be save your money.

vANZ does not require you to fly the Q300 but it was a challenge i wanted and i had mastered the B1900 by then. All i can say is i am glad i am now on the ATR.

Thoughtful analysis, thanks for that. Looking at the different versions available I sort of got the impression it was a training thing that also simmed as the "basic" level for this one is a fairly advanced flight-sim plane, and the models up from there introduce things like hardware support and external control ...

Also glad to hear you weren't being made to fly it smile.gif

Thanks
Gary
