Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Looks great. It'll be something else I need to get once it's out. Bit strange though.....I'm not sure what the Islander following is outside of NZ, but if I remember correctly Alphasim said they wouldn't be making any aircraft that they can't sell at least 400 or so of them?

It's a pretty common aircraft throughout the world - I'm sure there'd be a pretty big market for it.

Well I know WinAir in the Netherlands Antilles fly them from St Maarten to St Barths, so this aircraft will be a perfect addon for anyone using the FlyTampa scenery!

Also, quite a few regional airlines fly them from the outer UK islands to the mainland, I know of a couple in Fiji that take tourists out to the resort islands- I think there may be a number of military/government variants operating in Africa and South America and also possibly Germany due to their versatilely?

Any panel shots of the Alphasim Islander? So many good models are spoilt by poor panels.[/quote]
Not sure if this photo will be of use to you or anyone else, but after reading your post it reminded me of a photo I had stuck in my inbox from yonks ago:

Marcel Kuhnt's model has been on my system for ages- it looks great, but I've always had issues with over pitching up on takeoff

Pitching up on take off? hehe that is the general idea innit? winkyy.gif

Busy looking panel!

There are Islanders all over the world especially in "3rd world" countries. Over 1000 Islanders have been produced for government agencies, 3rd level airlines, military, search & rescue, police etc etc so there are plenty out there.

Andrew there are more screenshots of different schemes at this forum including WinAir

My parents used to see John Britten, (or was it Desmond Norman), in his youth, shaping a model in his backyard shed. I have a photo somewhere of this shed in which the Islander was born.

Actually I have a lot of fun with Marcel Kuhnt's Islander and Trilander http://www.m-r-software.de/. It comes in many forms and has great sound. There is also a Milford Sounds sightseeing scheme (and GBA too I think). Good VC too.

Yeah its a beauty all right. Will be interesting to compare it with the Alphasim model. I did a repaint of Marcels model for the Stewart Island Flights ZX-FXE recently if anyones interested. Uploaded it to flightsim.com las week (filename: bn2-zk-fxe.zip) here's a screenie of it...

Interesting thread. Takes me back to my childhood in the early '70s flying out of the bush where we lived in PNG in the venerable Douglas Airways Islanders. Was upside down in one over the Gulf Province in '78 when we were flying to Port Moresby in the tail end of a cyclone that was dealing to NT in Australia. Great planes, pretty robust, and carried all sorts of people and cargo at the time. The pilots still wore crisp white starched shirts though, lol! Also, Talair had a Trislander that did the Gulf run for a bit. The pilot used to leap out and prop the tail when he parked before anyone got out...!!!

We had this Islander incoming this very time last year , Alphasim had a brilliant forum , this died and many designers packed there bags leaving Alphasim , projects where hung out to dry i guess , worst part i think many really enjoyed the personal touch and upkeep off a forum .... now we look ....... just waiting

I am also waiting for the Islander, and also thought that it was coming ´"before Christmas". Perhaps should have asked before WHICH Christmas!! Good job that we are not holding our breaths on this one.

Hard one though for developers. Obviously it is good for them to give notice of things in development, but then that raises expectations and causes frustration when development is delayed. Nevertheless, I will be very happy when the Islander does finally land....

Perhaps they should give the job of finishing off the development to the guy (forget his name) who developed the L-39 Albatross. That would make the Islander something VERY special.

Smooth landings.....

Mike from Lotus...an Islander wouldnt be his cup if tea (although I wouldnt mind seeing a decent Islander as well)...his next project would appear to be a Mig-29............
