THE MUSTANGS

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Lovely pics you guys! I'm a huge P51 fan too. They are fast and used alot in the Round the World race by quite a few people. They will bite if mishandled so it's never boring to fly.
2 wrongs don't make a right but 2 Wrights made an aeroplane!

What with all this talk of Accelerator Mustangs, I thought I'd go back - almost a year - and see if the Carter version still holds up.
This repaint is a favourite, maybe it's just the colour, because it looks kinda unfinished

It does hold up, and remains I think the most convincing P51, just look at the detailing in these slides:
(Remember to click "full size" in PB, otherwise you lose the effect)

And a little moving picture - any way you look at it, it's beautful!

(Pardon the jerkiness, it was done on my Broken Sim, not the Good One)

Nice pics Charl. The Wazza Mustang is one of favourite freeware aircraft - do you have the mod that slightly lowers the stance of the main undercarriage? It sits a bit better and more realistic I feel. I am sorry I can't remember where I got it - I think from one of the guys here (Dean Baunton?)

Thanks for reminding me Paul - this was a re-install so does sit a little high.
I'll go scratch a little, must be on a HDD somewhere...

Just for comparison's sake: I repainted the Shockwave WWII Mustang in the above scheme too, so now you can make a threesome comparison:

(sorry for just the link, posting an image didn't seem to work)

All my repaints for MSFS can be found on flightsim.to
Older repaints for FS9, FSX and P3D are on avsim

jankees, thanks for the HU, I saw your repaint previously and was delighted by the idea of a further back-to-back.
Well I dug out all the Mustangs but find I can't install your repaint.
I have the standalone WOP P-51 which I had assumed was the same as WWII fighters and WOPII and other confusing titles used by Shockwave over time.
I see that several of the bmp's are common, but you have some others too.

Is there some way I can get your Jumpin' Jaques into my model??

Re Warwick's superb Mustang, are there ANY Kiwi paints out there? I've searched AVsim and FlightSim endlessly until I'm finished looking, and nothing. I don't know why, but flying a non-NZ schemed P-51 around NZ makes me uncomfortable. Is someone working on any? Or should I get to work myself? I for one don't really want to spend what little I have on a payware machine so that I can get it JUST to fly Kiwi Mustangs.

There was a photoreal ZK-TAF paint on ScreenshotArt.com, but I can't seem to find it any more.

Oops, sorry, no, that is not going to work.
My repaint is for the WWII fighters Mustangs, which has much higher resolution textures, and they do not fit the older P-51D/H model, so unfortunately, different model. I did a whole bunch of Kiwi repaints, and these are all for the later model, except for "miss Torque" (look on avsim), which should work on your model too.
Rene Bouwman did do Jacques for the D/H model (http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?Ca ... LID=108170), and that should work. It won't have the same resolution and level of detail though..
Maybe you can use some of my images for a full comparison, either the ones at avsim (http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?Ca ... LID=116601) or those at other forums.

Jan Kees

Hey Jan Kees, were you considering updating this one for the WWII Fighter version with B12's paintkit? - I have the 'Solo' download version which doesn't have the old WOP D model included, so can't use the old texture, be good to have this ex NZ flyer in the hanger.

Come to think of it 2 ex RNZAF stangs in their current airworthy schemes would be nice NZ2417 (the Mobil stang) with Kermit Weeks as Cripes a Mighty, and NZ2427 as Janie with Maurice Hammond..... ;)

Oh that is a great pity, I was hoping to get your paint for the comparison.
Perhaps I'll spring for the later WOP model - hope you're getting royalties! B-)

royalties, now that would be nice...

as for Miss Torque, I have been toying with the idea, so if you like, I may redo her for the WWII version.

I"ve had a look at the Shockwave site, and it's not immediately clear what's what.
Is thiswhat your repaints are done on?

Hey Charl, thats the one "solo" for the high res repaints, well over 100+ repaints (including RNZAF Mustangs) for this bird on Avsim from Jan Kees alone and John Terrell also(who also done an amazing paintkit that Jan Kees uses) amongst others
