Coming up: Aero Turbo Commander

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Hi, folks!

Following a proposal by mavman, I'm currently on this repaint of the Rockwell Turbo Commander 690 for the awesome freeware model by Veneaviones:

Here's the real one:

As you can see, it's still early status, but I think the hardest part of fiddling with the fin logo is done...

Cheers,
Markus.

Ian, I'd usually prefer a "Sir Milton" model over anything else, but this 690 model just is the right one for this repaint.
And although the Veneaviones repaint policy is quite restrictive (upload exclusively to AVSIM), the model and its paint kit was just too tempting for me...

I'm still open for any suggestion concerning Milton Shupe's piston-driven Aero Commanders!

Current status:

Those tapering curved lines really are a challenge...

Thanks, Ian.

It's done!
Just finished the upload to AVSIM.

Let's hope the AVSIM library managers won't screw up my upload, as I'm not allowed to upload it anywhere else...

Cheers,
Markus.

Thanks again Markus, your repaints are stunning!

The same company also has an Aero Commander 680 (although it is up for sale on Trademe). It's got a nice new paintjob without the main Aerial Mapping titles. Would be a nice toy if I had a spare coin or 3!!
These are the only recent pictures i could find (courtesy of trademe).

I'm sure this would look great on Milton's model! biggrin.gif

Nice repaint Markus on a nice model!

Incidentially Aerial Mapping operate (since 1964!) an Aero Commander 680F (ZK-CDK) which would suit Milton's Aero Commnader...cant find a decent photo of it though

Edit: haha beat me to it Mavman..great find on the pictures.

Heck!
This ZK-CDK carries even more curved tapering lines - thanks a lot! rolleyes.gif

But how could I resist?
It sure looks nice.

And because it's a product by the Shupe Company, I'll buy it! biggrin.gif

What does the line beneath the pilot's side window read?
"Matariki"?

Let's see if I can get it done before the real one gets sold...

Aaaah - found it out on my own:

QUOTE
The company's third aircraft, ZK-CDK started survey in 1964. Named 'Matariki' in 1967, this Aero Commander 680F provided an operating ceiling of 25,000ft - treble the camera to ground clearance of the Beechcraft in the high country and 20 knots faster. This aircraft was overhauled in 2003 after a year of 'retirement' and still provides a valuable survey platform for the company.[/quote]

But look what I've found searching for further pics of CDK:
http://www.wings.net.nz/aerialmap.html

Doesn't this Beech AT-11 Kansan look awesome too?
And because Milton is still working on this D18S derivate, there might be a chance for a civilian repaint of this bomber's trainer ... laugh.gif

Markus,

The Turbo Commander livery looks fantastic! It'll be a real treat to have the non-turbo one too!

I'm sure you know that Kansen livery is going to pretty much be a requirement by someone once Mr. Shupe releases it! biggrin.gif

Finally, if you are looking for more Shupe-stlye Aero Commander liveries, there are these:

What a handsome plane, and livery!
Well done Markus

Been some time since I looked at this model, it's very good.
Some FDE tweaks were required IIR but otherwise excellent - great VC and cabin too

Thank you, guys!

But I have to stress that the paint kit provided for this aeroplane made things very easy (except those tapering lines...).
The only things I had to add basically were the black deicer area on the upper part of the fin and the larger black mask around the front windows. Some decent exhaust stains on the horizontal stabilizer of course had to be added too (can't live without it...), although I'm not quite sure whether the Garretts are as smoky as the Twin Otter's P&W PT6 turbines...

Nice shot over Tauranga, Charl!

@ Sean:
Thanks for your suggestions!
But I think I'll stick to NZAM's ZK-CDK:
Besides its current "sale" livery, the older, red striped version, shown here
http://www.wings.net.nz/0207056.html
is just too nice to resist!

Cheers,
Markus.
