KBT P-3 Orion Fuel, footprint and lights mod..

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby Adrian Brausch » Thu Mar 22, 2012 4:07 pm

Hey fellas, I recently decided to give the KBT its proper sized fuel tanks, added default navs, strobes (wing & fuselage), rotating red beacons (fuselage ) and tail position lights (above and below the stinger ) as well as giving each wheel its own contact point which as a side affect has actually made the orion sit and "haunch" as it does in real life when accelerating down the runway smile.gif.

Link dissabled till further work on aircraft cfg is done sorry..

made a correction to the contact points,..noticed the diameter of the wheels was way too small,..so have inputed the correct size tires which has very much improved the rubbish ground handling biggrin.gif

Just out of interest Adrian what effect does this have on the ground handling? I find that the Ready For Pushback 747-200 (now CLS 747-200) handles like it is on a block of ice, especially after landing. I am sure this is a contact point issue. I had never considered tyre size.

the original tyre sizes for the kbt orion were nosewheels 1.5ft diameter and main wheels at 3ft dia,..I increased the tyres to their actual size of 2.5ft and 3.5ft ,..a full foot difference and has now got contact with the ground or at least thats how I see it,..the P-3 was also sliding like on ice before I altered the wheel size and it still slids a little but nowhere like it was before. It is now very steerable. With some models you need to be careful of not over turning especially with large aircraft as in the real aircraft you are more likely to tear the rubber off the rim !,..try turning the 747 without using full rudder,..if it still does it at even slow speed and half lock then perhaps the contact points could be looked at ...

An Orion should be able to get out of Whenupai at max weight - as it does regularly in real life, unless the new upgrade has changed that? Certainly in my time on 5 Sqn I filled the tanks to "max bag" plenty of times and saw the aircraft happily depart, occasionally with me and loads of bags on board to boot! From memory full fuel was around 61,000 lbs depending on temp. You might be getting confused with the 727 which needed to go to NZAA for full fuel.

I would to have love to known the weights for the display and fuel load during the one of the last Wigram airshows .. a P3 displayed and was off the deck in just over one third of the runway , the type empty really has the abill to punch the numbers .

Ha yes your probably right Deane, I need to look at the aircraft.cfg and make some changes as with the full fuel load I runs out of runway before breaking ground winkyy.gif ,..I have entered the correct 61,491 lb fuel though. Flap lift might need adjustment perhaps..it doesnt balloon with full flaps like it should....

Thanks Adrian. It is mainly at high speed that it is an issue. Any slight crosswind or correction required and off it goes. It is very annoying and a reason that I no longer fly it. I could try resetting the contact points but there is just too many damn wheels!

There is a good website article on an easy way to set contact points using lights.

thanks bud,..yea thats how i set the footprint on the p-3 using nav lights smile.gif,..I googled the CLS 747-200 and nobody else had a problem with the ground handling.., possible could be your controller settings you could try reseting to default then have another go ?
