Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby Aztec » Wed Jul 13, 2011 2:10 am

Well, after kicking around here for a couple of weeks I thought it about time to add a couple of ZK repaints to the hangar. But before I get to carried away I thought I'd see if anyone had any preference for any of these (sorry if any of them have already been done) -

http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=7022483&nseq=0

http://jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=7041398&nseq=0

And did anyone ever do this one?

Ideally when I do real-life repaints I like to use the exact same aircraft type wherever possible.

Of course, the options are limited by the add-ons I own, but I thought it worth asking in case there was on of these that someone particularly wanted.
Also, I know NZ is covered in 172s, but the Carenado paint kit for the 172 gives me a headache so I'm working up to that.

Cheers

Adam's a little coy about promoting his excellent NZ aircraft resource...see here for repaints:

I'd vote for ZK_NOC and any other Carenado Stationairs, myself.

Thanks Charl, that's what I needed - how have I not come across this before huh.gif Not only did I see what's already been done but I picked up some new paints for the Dove!

Looks like all the ones I was looking at haven't been touched yet, so I think I've got free range.

Connor, from memory the Canterbury a/c are Warriors, so if I ever get the Aussim Warrior I'll definitely look into it. I inquired at Aussim a long time ago about a paint kit when Version 2 came out but I don;t think anything ever came of it.
For the time being I'll definitely do DEA, since it is a 180F as far as I can tell, and I loved the tired, neglected look.

Well, here's a start. I thought I was starting off with something easy and would be able to re-hash an old paint of the same scheme, but it was not to be.

It should be up at AVSIM in the next couple of days, but in the interim does anyone know what the NZ regs are regarding the rego underneath the wing; this aircraft didn't appear to have it (not that I could see from the photos I had) and in OZ it is no longer a requirement, but anything that has not been repainted in the last few years generally has it.

Nice job with the ZK-WSJ repaint. Majority of GA aircraft in NZ don't have their rego on the bottom of the wing anymore.

Canterbury has the Cherokee 140's, Warrior II & III's, and Archers II & III's smile.gif

Connor - I've been working through repaints of the CAC aircraft recently, I've uploaded screens here smile.gif

Thanks modestmoo. I saw you talking about doing the 2048 textures on the other page; by this do you mean taking 1024 textures and enlarging them to do the paint then reducing them back down, or are you refering to the standard texture size. From memory I think I heard that 1024 is the largest that FS9 can handle, but FSX uses 2048 (I'll plead ignorance here because I've never touched FSX. )
I've tried enlarging textures before for the purpose of getting a more high definition paint, but with no luck. The WSJ paint particularly falls victim to 1024 textures since those finer lines get that slight staircase effect no matter what I try.

I think by default FSX uses 1024, however there are tools to increase the max texture size. The blank repaint kits I used were 1024, but I enlarged them to 2048 and then did the repaint - I save the .bmp's in 2048 also.

Thanks Maarken, sounds like many a 182 - no matter how well an owner/operator tries to look after their aircraft, it's the pilots (and passengers) that take their toll on the interior. CME is in the planning, but probably after NOC, which will be a couple of weeks away.

BTW, while I think of it, would anyone know what font is used on CME's rego? It looks the same as DEA and I've tried to match it as close as possible but I thought it might be a standard NZ thing.
