Converting fs9 .mdl's to FSX.

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby connor » Thu Feb 17, 2011 7:32 am

I have recently downloaded the brilliant Project Scarebus A320 and a air new zealand texture (or so I thought). But what I didn't realise is it was actually a full A/C with the engines being modeled differently. The PA a320 uses the default A321 vc, which is better than none at all, but the ANZ aircraft will not because it is a FS9 mdl not an FSX. If it was an fsx I could easily merge the Exterior and interior mdl's. So does anyone here have a way to do this?

Thanks, Connor

The FS9 format has a single MDL file which has both external and internal (VC) models, so I don't think you can bring into FSX and add a separate VC model.

You're right, you can't add a separate vc model, that is why I was hoping to convert the FS9 mdl into a fsx mdl so I could then merge the models. Thanks to those FSX mdl link's Nzeddy put me onto I should be in the clear now. Choice bro! New_Zealand_etc.gif
But if anyone does know, still post it because it could prove very useful for some of the other fs9, VC-less aircraft. smile.gif

No , i dont know of anything myself that will un compile a mdl back to a model gmax or fsds file ,try get hold of the owner of the model and ask for the source files which is the only way i know of to re export a mdl into a sim model .

as Mike said,...ye cannae do it other than getting the source files in which in 99.9 % of the time you will dissapointed in the reply . Giving out source codes for anything other than old and redundant models can create more problems than its worth for the original author of the models.
