Need Repaint Help

Hi guys i need some help or advice to repaint the nemths ec120 with one of my favorite helicopter firms but so far i all my attemps have brought no joy as i have no idear what so ever when it comes to repainting i can provide all the required photos and would be grafefull for any help i can get

Hi ya Jas , obviously this is for FSX , I have been hitting a brick wall myself , I use photoshop/coreldraw with DXTbmp , think it would be great to start a step by step help desk .

at the moment i was thinking fs9 to compliment the queenstown scenery and i had heaps of plays in my attemps to sus it out using abacus but the cloesest i got was a rainbow gone worng

Aircraft repaint .. what paint program are you using , Abacus FSpaint , - to your paint editing program - what program ?

Righto .. you need a paint / photo editing program , not MSpaint

i know the abacus fs repaint i found easy to mess things up with. i do have high res photos shot in sharp focus that can be used for the repaint if someone wanted to attemp it

Currently i dont have both FS9 , Abacus yet installed but still require a art/paint/photo edit program

in know i have a fs9 repaint that was working fine in fsx. so i still need a photo editor to work alongside the fs painter one

Hi Jason,

One thing to watch out for on the EC120 is the fact that the tailboom on sheet 3 is to a larger scale than the fuselage on sheet one. Any lines that cross from front to rear will need re-sizing and re-positioning. Also finding out where all the bits are was a right excercise in haemorrhoid removals... But I know where most bits are now and I know how to fix the instrument panel inverted lettering (You guys did spot that, didn't you?)

As for paint tools - the Abacus software is great - as long as you have a paint software. All FSR does is to give you a very rapid show of what you are working on. I did use it a lot, but it still doesn't render the planes exactly as they appear in FSX. i.e. with spec and bump.

One really great tool - and FREE at that - is "the GIMP". It does everything photoshop can. I don't know exactly how good it is because I have used Corel Draw suite for fifteen years or so now and I am not really willing to learn a different tool.

i would'nt be able to ask you if you could attempt it if you have some spare time could i cause i think this model is way out the beginers level in repainting for my self

the best i do with out emailing u is showing the same paint but with a different id tag on the firms ec130 that is almost a twin to the 120 see pic from creators http://nzff.org/forum/index.php?autocom=ga...q=si&img=22 thats the best i can do without emailing you as i don't know how to upload pics but hope fully that should a idear

I fear that that screenshot is a bit "poorly".

I have looked at the FlyNZ website - can't see any good photos there either. Their photo gallery appears to be "wasted"...

I just spotted your mention of "The Gimp". I've had to use Photoshop (for work) for ages now, so find it almost impossible to use anything else. However - when I played with my Ubuntu machine, I gave the Gimp a whirl. I found its GUI totally illogical ("insane" would be more accurate). I couldn't find a way of doing even the simplest operations. I'd successfully weaned teenage daughter No.1 off Windows but hit a brick wall trying to help her edit those endless facebook photos.

It's free, after all ... and pretty powerful (by the looks of it) but I'd rather spend just a bit on maybe an older version of Paint Shop Pro than tear my hair out blundering around "The Gimp" (why do I always think of "The Grinch" when I see that word? ).

Hey DNK, I'd definately encourage you to have a go at this yourself, there really is nothing more satisfying than flying an aircraft in the sim for which you have done the skin yourself. And once you've painted one the next one will seem simpler. Dont set your goals too high, maybe start with a simpler aircraft.

If you dont have a lot of experience with the more complex editing programs they can be a handful but its still worth persisting. Unlike Adamski I'd actually reccomend the GIMP, its a great and fully-featured tool and if you arent used to another tool like photoshop (like I wasnt) then I dont think it will be that difficult to pick up

i think i will leave this model for the experts but none the less i am still very keen to learn the ropes so that i may one day be able share my future projects that i have a small mountain of that are all in real life photo form but no repaint .but thx for for your advice

Superb link Dean I think half my problem is also the using DX10 , after installing AI - some paints simply don,t work , simply finding the right format would be my issue .

thanks guys for the advice and tips i find it helpfull also would u know of any videos that show it cuase i have found that i more a visual type of person and once i see a video for i can then use what i see and perfect it
