Ive gone around the main forums looking for answers about just putting in my own afcad grass ,i dont really want to put photoreal images down just change or make my own grass texture that afcad would pick up ,
so far i was looking into the idea that i could just make a nicer looking map ,that would be named as a unknown or a special texture etc .. but can even fined the maps it uses ??

Im not to keen on making the ground alpha polys for taxi stuff but just wanting a better look to the over all grass ..
if you have a idea on the maps that i need to fined could you plz help

I'm sure I've seen freeware replacement grass textures about - check the download libraries. Problem is though that it's a global replacement - FS only has one basic 'grass apron' texture, whereas on any real airfield I've ever been to you'll find mown grass, rough grass, mown rough grass, lawn grass, meadow grass etc. etc. and they all look very different.

yeah thanks mate ill just look into ground ploygons with gmax and do a bit of code ,this will hold stuff up and mite not work the same way in FSX ..its sad you cant just add a texture and it pop up on a list of options like gravel and grass ,,
hey they have never made life easy

Tell me about it!
A lot of GA airfields here started off as WWII 'A-frame' airfields, with three runways, and quite often the conditions of the original land sale stipulated that the farmers could still farm 'in the gaps', so it's quite common to see a grass border around the runways and crops everywhere else. Try doing that in AFCAD! Even the hard textures are very limited - concrete taxiways (all WWII era hard airfields were concrete, so it's the predominant texture) have a 'weft' that follows the orientation of the taxiway or apron. Can't do that in AFCAD! Even tarmac/asphalt is generally a skim layer over concrete, so the same weft shows through. To do that convincingly to have to make ground polys with the FS2002 gamepack and tweak them, for heavens sake! And supposedly even that won 't work with SP2.

It is said the reason MS won't update FSX further is they've run out of feet to shoot themselves in! unsure.gif
