Scenery problems

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

I post some screenshots in that section which has led to another question, so I will continue it here. I have finally gotten into the programme bowels and I found the fs9 files. I do not know if I opened it up in the correct way. Used WORD. Changed the terrainvertex max level setting from 19 to 21 and saved. Went on to do a flight. Still used Rotorua as this is the originl so any change I made hopefully will stand out from previous flights from there. Looked the same but now had a small ridge line along the side of the airfield. So another problem. Also noticed that with the installation of the Topo etc bridges appear everywhere. Also details of their structure as with pylons is broken and not complete in parts. I am not going to install the Real NZ CD's untill I sort this out. I have the following settings from the top, Addon, propeller objects, vehicle library, Red Baron NZ Mesh, Red Baron NZ Topo, generic Library.....at 39 Default scenery and last Default terrain. Do these need to be altered in order. Between these are airport s etc. For the previous details on this refer to Screen shots and my post under First Shots by captainherc.

Sorry for slow reply, you should always use a basic text editor when changing .cfg files, a program like 'notepad' does the trick. For the RBE problems I would post in the RBE Support Forum. winkyy.gif

Looks like you did the right thing. The change is more noticable in the mountains, the area directly around Rotorua is too flat to notice this change. You should see a difference at the volcanoes to the east, but much more on the SI.

The ridgelines around airports are a pain and due to MS' wisdom to make airports flat. The 20m mesh makes the terrain accurate and most airports are sloped, so you get little fake plateaus and airports digging into the terrain. This isn't dramatic, but leads to this small but annoying effect. Airports need to be flat in FS otherwise the AI won't work. Scenery designers rallied MS to change this for FSX, but they didn't. So unfortunately we have to live with this.

The bridge effect is another limitation in the FS engine. If you want to get rid of the bridges, delete the br*.bgl files in the topo folder.

Hope that helps.
