NZCI Chatham Islands (Tuuta) Airport

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Snowman » Thu Aug 16, 2007 3:04 pm

Some pics of another one of my little scenery projects. This one, (like many others i have), has been sitting around on my HDD in 3 different unfinished versions for several years.................
If theres any interest in it, i will upload it to Avsim for anybody that wants it.
Heres a few quick pics of where its at....................

Kelburn did a nice little FS2002 version of NZCI a while back, and thats kinda given me the encouragment to get off my backside and finish this and others that i have half done scattered all over my HDD, (Hamilton and Napier were 2 of them).

Nice work Lawrie, how long have you been doing scenery design? Go-on, upload it. I'm sure there are plenty of people around who would this scenery.

Dan

[Edit] do they really have ILS out there? I thought it was a tricky NDB DME approach to get in.

It is a tricky approach, thats just a gap filler,........... not sure if it will be there in the final version.
How long have i been doing scenery stuff ??.......................... about 4 years, just been doing it for myself though.
I was convinced by a fellow simmer after he saw a lot of my scenery in my sim, to put some of them online, so im gonna do just that. Ive had too many unfinished projects scattered everywhere for too long.
Maybe its time to finish them off, and share them. Hey, either you will like them or you wont,....... simple.
And if some people dont like them,.............. even simpler,.............. just un-install the stuff.
I make do with the basic tools that i have at hand. I will NEVER be anywhere near the league of people the likes of Robin Corn.

Hi Lawrie,

Just a thought, might want to loose the trees and many of the ground vehicles, especially if this is anything to go by (refer: the second photo down in Trolly's post).

It looks great.
Also It's Tuuta not Tuutu as you've posted.
Also if you want a more realistic Chatham islands airport, you need to remove the trees.
Anyway it is quite goodand the airport looks quite busy

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

Yep, i know its BARREN and DESOLATE there. I do have a vague recollection of it from when i was in my early teens. Went there with my parents to see some relative that was living there at the time.
I did add a quick text Exclude to FS9's scenry.cfg file to exclude all the trees, but i HATED it !! I cant live without greenery laugh.gif .......... it was UGLY !!! ohmy.gif
The trees in the pics are only FS9 default autogen trees, but with the "Tree-X" FSX type textures.
Anyone can feel free to add an exclude to their scenery if they so desire after they download it.

Yes Kelburn, i know its Tuuta, ... not Tuutu, typo...........

i take one of those and a bag of chips please winkyy.gif your scenery looks great, like all of them, give a bit more feel than the sterile airports of default fs9!!! keep it up cheers1.gif clapping.gif
In the ongoing battle between objects made of aluminum going hundreds of miles per hour and the ground going zero miles per hour, the ground has yet to lose.

So what if it's not 100% accurate, neither was the default Microsoft,But I would rather have your scenery any day than theirs.Pull out all the stops, let your hair down and go for it,I think the comments that the others have made and the number of downloads of NZNR and NZHN speak for themselves clapping.gif clapping.gif clapping.gif

Comments very much appreciated guys,.................. thank you.
The default ugly grey boxes that MS put in as a miserable excuse for terminals etc, did benefit quite a lot from installing "Airport Environment Upgrade V-7". In my humble opinion, New Zealand would have had to be one of the worst looking countries in FS9 as it was "straight out of the box".
In a lot of cases in the default New Zealand, it wasnt so much a case of what they put in was ugly or wrong, but rather what they DIDN'T put in. A lot of NZ airports didnt even have an ugly grey box to represent a terminal (NZTG as an example).
So anything really has to be an improvement over what they did, or didn't do !!
Speaking of what they didnt do, iv'e dusted off a scenery that i started years ago for NZRC, Ryans Creek (Stewart Island).
Should be up on Avsim in the next day or two.
For those that REALLY NEED to have a barren and desolate NZCI Chatham Islands, im sure if you ask around on NZFF, someone will make you an exclude file that will make all the default agn trees all over the island dissapear.
If thats the case, then you will also want to remove from the Chatams"Scenery" folder the file named....... NZCI_Tree.BGL .
Its a couple of trees , and a couple of small bushes around the terminal building area.
For those that dont like the static vehicles in the scenery, simply remove the file named.......... NZCI_Veh.BGL .
