This Interactive Map might help get us started with small NZ strips...that is, if anyone wants 'em.

I'm thinking of making some farm airstrips later in the year

Goff

Brilliant resource, well spotted.
Issue with small strips is to include flatten/exclude bgl's in the scenery.
That way you don't have to mess with extra entries in the scenery.cfg file to make it work for everyone's flavour of mesh/topo.

That resource shows most of the published CAA airstrips which is great. To move to the next level - farm and ag strips try the file download at the bottom of this page NZ airstrips. It shows over 2000 of them. I used this in conjunction with google earth and NZ Topo online to identify where strips are. I have plotted over 50 alone around Marlborough on google earth, with thoughts of eventually making them for Robins scenery, with Loader trucks etc for ag operations

Nice one - once I get my PPL, one thing I intend to do is visit a bunch of these strips - umm, expect pics once I'm 17 :rolleyes:

First 3 strips uploaded to Avsim yesterday...really a modest start - hoping ya'll might wanna make better ones.

Some trucks would be great.

3 down...1997 strips to go....

Thanks Goff.

Might I make a suggestion, though? Think the windsocks should be 14 feet in height, not 14 meters :blink: (meters are the default measurement for .xml objects). Had to scale the hangers down a bit too (0.90 rather than 1.80).

Lookin' good.

Don't forget that this map actually shows the strips that are in the Roads & Rivers of NZ scenery (there are in fact over 3000! ;) ). So if you own RR you have the strips already, although getting some detail buildings + vehicles around the strips would be great too. The 3000 strips aren't all farm strips, a lot of them are also private strips to cart tourists to a scenic spot, or privately owned strips for other operations (deer hunting and the like). There are a lot more strips in real life, a shame they aren't all mapped. It's amazing how high the airstrip density in NZ actually is.

Cheers,
Christian

using a program like FSSC how do you create a sloping runway?
Do you have to make it using gmax etc.

There is one strip that I haven't found yet and that is the one at Hawera.Try as I might I just can;t seem to locate that one and I know that it exists because that's where I started my flying carreer,many moons ago.

For some reason Hawera is not represented in FS (although Stratford is). I am not sure whether it in R & R - I'll have to check it out.

Thanks, Dorian..learning something new each time I log in.

This 'project' is quite exciting. It opens up a whole new angle to flight-sim.

Was just wondering if there could be a single depository of small airstrips...like ya'll did with the Great NZ AI Project. ??? Would this work?

Howdy Goff,

If you add the following:

<SceneryObject
lat="S40 26.99374"
lon="E176 6.32654"
alt="0.0000M"
altitudeIsAgl="TRUE"
pitch="0.00"
bank="0.00"
heading="0.00"
imageComplexity="NORMAL">
<Trigger
type="REFUEL_REPAIR"
triggerHeight="0.00">
<Fuel type="100"
availability="UNKNOWN"/>
<Vertex biasX="-10.000" biasZ="-10.000"/>
<Vertex biasX="-10.000" biasZ="10.000"/>
<Vertex biasX="10.000" biasZ="10.000"/>
<Vertex biasX="10.000" biasZ="-10.000"/>
</Trigger>
</SceneryObject>

to the Coonoor.bgl, the fuel pump will automatically refuel your aircraft when you come within range.

Just a thought.

Dorian

Does anyone know how to add sounds to scenery without using a program like FS Sound studio?
