Any testers for X-plane 12 Taieri?

Postby toprob » Tue Jul 09, 2024 10:28 am

Last month I finished the rough XP11 conversion of NZTI for Otago Heli's simulator, which I won't release, but I do want to release a XP12 version. If anyone wants to test this, please let me know. It should be ready any day now.
Just bear in mind that I don't have a clue what constitutes a 'finished' XP scenery, I just want to know anything obvious that I missed. It requires OpenSceneryX (for the trees, I can't get my conversions to look nice in XP) but I've tried to minimise the number of dependencies.
The best thing about this XP conversion is that it makes me appreciate MSFS a lot more. I think the heli trolleys work, but I can't fly a heli in X-Plane.

I'm happy to give it a look over. Can't post screenshots on here nor fly helicopters with a game pad but I can check for obvious errors if you like

I've got installed now...but I think Nick would be more informed than me to comment.
Still fumbling along tweaking it with a few addons.

Ok, here's the download link. Unzip the contents to your Custom Scenery folder. As stated, it requires OpenSceneryX, link below. 570MB.

Download Taieri from mega.nz

Get the opensceneryx download here.

Let me know if you install it, so I know how many are testing.

This is a very simple beta test, in that I just want to know whether or not it displays ok for you, and your particular scenery configuration/addons. I really don't want to spend much more time on this, so this isn't like the previous Godzone beta tests, where I wanted suggestions on how to make it better, this is more just a yes or no to whether it works for you.

You can share the link with anyone you know who might be interested in testing this, just don't post the link where it is visible on the web.

Thanks very much Rob, I've downloaded the first part, yours will be next.
I'll do the whole thing this weekend and report back.

Had a moment so I tested it just now. Pretty much default XP 12.1 here and yep it loads and displays just fine. I know you didn't want this but I'll say it anyway, a lot of the metallic surfaces show up as being highly reflective which look a bit strange sometimes and you might consider replacing the old 'billboard' 2d trees with default XP trees. Tested one of the pads with the default Robbie and it sits on there fine but the Khamsin Lama falls through. I'll test it with Auto Ortho later on once Oceania is downloaded.

Yes, the shiny textures were my initial attempt at PBR, but I forgot to swap them out for this release. I'll upload another version soon, which will include the fixed PBR, which I finally figured out this morning.

Ok, here's the updated scenery, not finished with PBR textures yet, but let me know if this is an improvement.

By the way, the trees are from OpenSceneryX, as my converted trees didn't look great.

By the way, after a number of mis-steps, I'm managed to get the aerial image to match the border of the airfield now.

Yep, that new PBR looks a heck of a lot better. I think I know those are from Open Scenery, I never used them because they didn't look great. The default XP trees for 12 are much better. You might also consider putting a decal on the ground image just to give it some depth

I hadn't even thought of using the new trees, as they weren't available in XP11, but I've just had a look and they might be useful. There isn't much variety, and no willows for the stream, but I'll certainly use some here and there. I don't think I can plant individual trees at objects, but I can sort of do this using the 'forest' feature.

You should be able to place individual trees as objects in WED but yes, the forest is the best way for larger numbers. It used to be in 11 that the forest would only work if it was a sufficiently big area. I can't give you any advise on XP12 because I haven't developed anything for it yet.

Ok, one final go at this -- you will need to delete the old folder in your XP installation before installing this.

Loaded it with auto ortho and there are no elevation issues there. Might want to check the fences around the aeroclub but around all of it really, they don't line up that well
