PHDR Scenery released

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby JonARNZ » Fri Mar 02, 2007 11:16 pm

David Halls fictional Hawaiian island retreat airport is now available from the ARNZ website. This scenery is a great example of what can be done in the new sim, and is allot of fun to fly in and out of.

You can see images of the airport in the Multiplayer video's on Youtube, check the video thread for links etc.

Hi, David here.

I just had a look at your video Jon, and I made a bit of a discovery. I saw that the airport terrain was flat right up to the edges. After playing with the settings, I found that this occurs if the "terrain mesh resolution" is set to 38m or higher. I usually have it set to 10m. At any setting lower than 19m, FSX draws little hills around the edges of any raised flatten area. Have a look at the screenshots below to see the effect of changing this setting:

Terrain mesh resolution set to 38m - you must have wondered why runway 32 (the dive off the back of the apron) was oriented in that particular direction.

At 19m resolution a few sharp hills begin to show.

At 10m resolution it becomes obvious why runway 32 is oriented that way!

Finally, at 1m resolution the hills are fully developed and nicely rounded. You can see that I actually placed the VOR on top of a little hill at the end of the main runway.
