NZFF

Hi all out there in NZFF land, i don't tend to fly modern tubeliners, but if i am flying commercial they tend to be classic airliners like the Electra, VC10, L-1049 series, DC-4 through DC-10 and looking for airports of a more classic nature. I Fly FSX Accel, and i have a few of the excellent Cal Classic Douglas' DCs, Convairliners and others. The Cal Classic site has updated their scenery object file packs to be useable in FSX, though not many of the airport packs are FSX friendly. I want to be able to use the Cal Classic Airport scenery packs like their 1959 Kingsford Smith, and LAX so i can fly from Whenuapai to Kingsford Smith or Island Hop to LA from Auckland in the Electra as i have the awesome Pac Island packs from Snowman.
Is there any way to use the Cal Classic FS2004 scenery files in FSX?

Most files should work/will work if they are only library objects placed, the airport data can be retro'd down but generally it won't have the same affect in FSX due the mapping and urban sprawl , this would require an old then rebuild from there.

The simple answer is to use FS9 for CalClassic flying.
That said, there are a lot of people doing great work testing and fixing things to FSX standard, but it is not a small job. Coastlines are very different, not least because the world is round in FSX, but all previous MSFSs used a flat Earth.

It sort of accumulated over the years. What amazes me is I can still dredge it up out of the memory bank

I moved to FSX (and now P3D) as my main platform a long time ago but given the wealth of quality addons out there, FS9 remains my sim of choice for a classic environment.

For my install simulating 1946-1970, I have:

Dedicated FS9.1 install - just copied the base files and built it up from there.
Silver Wings - texture replacement package regressing FS9 to a circa-1950s environment.
CalClassic Scenery Libraries
CalClassic Scenery packages, and some third party
CalClassic AI Propliner Traffic
CalClassic AI Helicopter Airline Traffic
Classic AI USAF Military Air Transport Service Traffic

With a dedicated classic install, you can remove any default aircraft which are out of period and also exclude airports and landmarks as required. It can take a long time to build everything up, but once done there's really nothing like it. Personally, I find myself flying Silver Wings far more than standard FS9, the CalClassic stuff is so good.

I also have a dedicated FS9 install built on Golden Wings, simulating the dawn of flight to 1945.

Think of it Ade , my FS9 Christchurch is now a CLASSIC .. dang airport dose not look like that anymore, like stepping back in the past

Too right, Adrian...In my Classic FS , I could do VFR pilotage at FL230 all the way from London to Darwin, with accurate mesh and coastlines along the way, and America was pretty glorious too. I am still rebuilding it all.
Having been led astray by all the brilliant FSX VLC and GZ stuff didn't really help
