Hey guys have just installed the Hawkes Bay scenery and went for a quick flight the other day with the settings I usually have in FSX and for some reason the autogen scenery is standing out but the photo scenery around it is all blurry even from inside the cockpit. I have an AMD FX™-6300 six core processor 8 gb of DDR3 Ram and an AMD Radeon R7 200 Series 2GB graphics card so the system is not bad but Ive heard that Radeon graphics cards don't handle FSX very well is this true? That would be such a bummer because have only just upgraded. Is there anyone out there with a similar kind of system that my know how to set this up best for FSX? The scenery is kinda the same in Auckland and Nelson, I have the patches installed. I know its got nothing to do with the scenery packages so could someone maybe help? maybe I need my cfg tweaked or something?

Just to check first -- I assume with your system you have all the settings up high? In particular, the Level of detail radius, and the Global texture resolution.
If so, then it might be a mipmap setting in your graphics driver..

Hey thanks Rob, I don't actually know what a mipmap is lol. I may have go and see the guy who built it for me, but yes, I do have Detail Radius and global texture maxed out. The mesh and texture? resolution I mess with a little but nothing too extreme and always end up pretty much maxed out as well. I use Rex extreme sometimes but the pic was taken with just fsx default weather so not really a strain on the sysyem. :-)

I'm trying to remember how I used to set up my old Radeon, but that was a while ago now -- and not anywhere as flash as yours. From memory, there was some sort of setting in the video driver which by default is set for performance, but needs to be changed to 'quality'. Sorry I can't be much more help.

I have always been very disappointed with "Photographic Scenery" for the various Flight Sims...(starting with Looking Glass's; Flight Unlimited II) and never use it now.

Its just a flat photograph laid down over the scenery Mesh and naturally has a blurred effect, whereas true "Autogen Scenery" contains 3D objects, and for my low-level type of flying, feels much more realistic!

I abandoned using Photo Scenery many years ago, and recent screen shots don't encourage me to want to use it again!

Paul....very photogenic!..... biggrin.gif ....!

This is a Strange one , generally at the ALT you are at the photo should be crisp , thought - have you taken out your weather cloud - set to to default clear sky's for a starter .

I am , prefer photo-real over anything else in areas that can be built on , your in a default aircraft so there is no draw of system resource so I wonder maybe the Graphics Card has packed a sad ? .

Paul you are missing out mate, you need to look at your flight sim config if that's the case. Having just spent a couple of days flying around Robin's photoreal + autogen subscription stuff this week I am now a convert, it's absolutely stunning, can't believe how cool it is especially at low levels. Even the wife agreed and that's saying something tongue.gif

Hello Dean.... biggrin.gif ....

Over in our forum plot, photo-scenery from the likes of "Blue Sky Scenery", etc, is very popular, and looks quite impressive from screen shots taken from great height, but anywhere near, or on the ground, results in the expected flat, tree-less, building-less, photograph effect!
Most. if not all, of my General Aviation, daily flights occur on the ground and at heights of 500-1000 feet AGL amongst 3D objects, buildings, vegetation, etc, as in real life!
I don't really see that happening in Photographic Scenery screen shots.
Grand Canyon, etc, looks fine from a height of 30,00 feet AGL, but at, or very near ground level is always very disappointing for me in my little Cessna 150, Microlights, and Gyroplanes, usually chasing butterflies through the tree-tops!!

I think that my very/extremely low level flying mostly precludes Photographic Scenery, in general.... sad.gif ...1

I've yet to be convinced.... winkyy.gif ...!

Paul...butterfly chaser extraordinaire... biggrin.gif ...!

It is handy having a close net community were we can check or compares each others setup, I have had two very powerful and expensive graphic cards go on me (they had three year warranty's but died 20 months then 15 months) , least you have the warrenty winkyy.gif , the biggest thing is pointing out to the PC builders that MS-Flight sim is a huge user.

You showing the screen, exactly what the, my first card showed , nothing was sharp, everything lost its detail , did you have someone close by who is into FS and would able to look at machine ?

I think I've said this before -- photoscenery doesn't have to mean 'flat' scenery. Sure, it's a bit trickier to autogen photoscenery, but that doesn't preclude it. Here's a preview of the Subscription Wellington -- plenty of stuff to crash into down low...

Hi Buzzard

You may like to try the following settings if your running DX9 mode (after taking note of your current settings)

IN GAME SETTINGS:-

Lock frame rates at 30
Do NOT tick anti-aliasing
Enable Ansiotropic

In the Ati Catalyst Control Centre:-

Anti Aliasing Mode Override application settings
Anti-Aliasing Samples 4x
Filter Standard
Anti-Aliasing Method Supersampling
Morphological Filtering off
Anisotropic Filtering Mode Override application settings
Anisotropic Filtering Level 16x
Texture Filtering quality High Quality
Surface format Optimisation off
Wait for vertical frame refresh Off unless application specifies
OpenGL Triple Buffering Off
Tessellation Mode AMD optimized
Maximum Tessellation Level AMD optimized

In the FSX config file ensure you have

[DISPLAY]
WideViewAspect=True

[GRAPHICS]
HIGHMEMFIX=1
ForceFullScreenVSync=1

Heya Warren no theres no-one close by to lias with but the guy who built my computer used to do the flightsim computers for Air New Zealand pilots a few years back so figured he would know what he's doing. I'm going to put my original cfg file back into FSX and restore my catalyst centre back to default and see what happens, if not much then its back to the shop smile.gif

Hey there Robbo thanks very much for this I will try and see if it improves things. Will let you know the result k :-)

You would find its not the person who put your system together, Its simply the hardware, I had a brand new PC that lasted a week and simply POP ! the MOBO went and the graphics card .... this was from an outfit called PC Unlimited , that would be around the same time they got caught selling shoddy PC parts , I now go to my trusted shop and even then cards go POP ... good with Calder Electronics is they have it fix .. almost in hours .. may cost a little but my computers here are also tools so they are a primary .

Heya guys I tried everything you suggested but to no avail as you can see. Don't know what the double image is all about but you can still see the blurriness. Might take computer back to shop sad.gif

Buzz....

On your Desktop....
Click on the Start Button....

search...type....>>> dxdiag

This with show all the details of your computer system, including the Direct X version that you are running.
