Orbx NZNI & NZSI

I now really want NZSI and NZNI after seeing lots of awesome screens from you guys on here I do have a couple of Qs though

-Can I buy it anywhere in NZ?
-Will it have worse frame rates than VLC?

my Specs:

Windows XP SP3 32-Bit
AMD Athlon II X2 240 Processor 3.0 GHZ
4.00GB of RAM
Geforce GTX650 2GB of Memory GDDR5
Corsair HX650 PSU

Currently FSX is running great with VLC with 30+ FPS In all ares

VLC dose not have bad frames , it fact be easier than ORBX

http://www.flightsimstore.com/ is the place to go for both NI /SI , running with 20 fps is the best anyone gets with sliders maxed , general rule the human eye can't discern over that much

I run ORBX on my laptop (model in my sig). Its ok. I don't tweak FSX at all, pretty much default and out of the box for me. I don't frame limit either, though I have seen (not tried) that NVidia inspector can improve FSX by externally limiting frames. I have FSX set to unlimited, sliders as recommended by ORBX, and I get on average 30-45 fps except when the lights come on at night over a well lit airfield then they drop right down. I also run REX and AccuFeel v2, and AirTrafficX most recently. Not sure if that helps your decision or not; its just another data point. When it gets released I'll add FTX Global for other world areas and also plan to get an updated mesh, probably FS Global Ultimate; not sure yet.

Sorry I didn't mean that it had bad frames - I just wanted to know whether NZSI & NZNI would be harder to run than VLC

Terry you would find it has many features with lost of frames , i like simply it suits Christchurch photoreal better than a sock on ya foot

I can't say that I noticed any significant difference in frame rates when I started using Orbx so if there is a difference it must be insignificant and probably not worth worrying about.

Orbx have stopped selling boxed product so you will have to hurry along to Flightsim Store and see if they still have some boxed product in store. They also offer to burn software to a CD for a small fee so that is another option to check out - it's called their Digital Media Service. http://www.flightsimstore.com/product_info...?products_id=96

Some of the other vendors may be worth checking out too in case they have some of the old boxed sets still in stock.

If you do download, two pieces of advice:

1. Internet Download Manager, or similar. (IDM is payware US $25, but has a fully functional trial period; I just paid for it as it is useful).

2. A 'zip' program like WinZip, PowerArchiver, WinRAR, 7Zip or similar; I've found Windows Zip (aka 'Compressed Folders') can barf on unpacking large files; it may / may not unpack them, and even if it does it may not do so correctly and you might see errors trying to run the install programs and typically none of the error messages will say anything at all about possible zip unpacking problems! I downloaded 4+GB twice before I worked that one out.

So, then, what do you think of it?
If my flying lesson gets cancelled tomorrow morning (which would be the third consecutive weekend) then I'm going to treat myself to ORBX England (my home country or many years back).

Its Incredible! - not only that even with NZSI and NI and REX frame rates are just as good or better! only issue is that if I turn everything up I get the ''your computer has run out of memory bla bla please change graphics, traffic etc

Yeah, my thoughts too. I haven't yet run into out of memory errors; perhaps I have things set low enough to avoid them.
As good as the ORBX stuff is, some of Robin's add-on scenery and HamiltonX / TaupoX from FS Creations enhances it still further.
Oh, and after a flying lesson that was $100 more than expected (I didn't want to come down!), no ORBX England for me yet!

BTW, www.flightsimstore.com are having an ORBX England / Wales Scotland special at the moment.
Price reduced permanently on England & Wales by 20%, price reduction on England airports by 25%.
If you buy England *and* Wales together, then until 7th July you can get 15% additional of the soon-to-be-released Scotland.
Unfortunately, my wallet has taken a hammering this weekend, so I cannot take advantage :-(

Fantastic! Am hopping from one airport to the next, starting in the far North but using NZNE as my home base, which ORBX have done a very nice job of. It's the only scenery I've seen (so far) that does Thames in the right place with pretty much the correct placement of buildings. Land too hot on the southerly runway and you'll end up in the sewerage pond,.. *ahem* as a few real pilots have done .

Every little airstrip has been put in and the moving people (and blades of grass) are a nice touch. Also seems to visually improve the weather/clouds. Five of their own weather themes are included.

With so much in the way of sight-seeing objects, places and buildings - even hydrothermal effects around Taupo & Rotorua, the Wind Farm near Tokoroa, am surprised they missed out such an "interesting" landmark of the Satellite Station (aka "Spy base") in Warkworth - it would just look sooo cool like the real thing - plopped in the middle of all those nice rolling farms.

Had a good laugh at the 3-D static aircraft but they are nicely modelled - an abundance of Cessna Cardinals and Bonanza A36's at almost every airport (Cessna Skyhawks might have been a wee bit more realistic, considering the number of Cardinals in this country numbers only about 20 or so... and the A36 Bonanza's you can count on one hand!!! LOL

Other 3-D vehicles, boats, balloons and things by the ton, with little cars and trucks zooming along on almost every road. All the major and most of the minor roads are there. A dream for low and slow VFR flying.

Change the seasons around... beautiful. They've done a really good job - and I haven't even toured the South Island yet!

Best part: hardly any hit on frame rates. Worst bit: Downloading it! Gaghhhhh!
Cost for both NZ Nth & Sth Islands is about NZ$100.

Unfortunately I don't have room (or $$) for Australia, USA, Canada & England/Europe but they're on the wish list.

I see they're launching ORBX global but have yet to see some finished product screens.

The satellite station is there in the OrbX scenery, I've flown over it a few times in FS! Have a look in the background here and you'll see it.



OrbX Global is a little different in that it is "just" replacement textures for the default scenery rather than a full on transformation with mesh and landclass and airfields and everything like in their other packages, but from the screenshots I've seen it will still make the world look a heck of a lot better, especially when paired with a decent mesh and landclass combo, as they slowly but surely model the entire world in OrbX NZ levels of detail!

I don't know how they managed to miss out the Auckland War Memorial Museum!

But overall they have done a very nice job all round. Most of the locally created airports work well with it also with a little bit of tweaking. Wouldn't be without it now

FlyingKiwi - cool! But that's weird! Have cranked up the scenery detail in mine and I still can't see the Warkworth satellite dishes: there's a rectangular building and antennae/mast where it should be,.. and the road leading up to it? (Used Google coordinates as well - nuffin!...) Is the Casino in yours? (Over Auckland CBD)? - missing in mine... maybe I need to reinstall
