hello

I have played around with afcad quite a few times but always run into some real problems. The little airports I make always have ground comeing up threw the rwy, not a good thing to try and land a 763 on! I also I have the trouble of autogen objects sitting on my taxiways, I usualy just have autogen off but the little afcad airports I make are soo fps friendly it doesn't matter :P

I would quite enjoy making my own fictional airports just for fun, like making it a tricky approach. I have version 2.21 of afcad.

Thanks
James

Hi Jimmy, The problem with the ground is the area you are making your airport on isnt flat, AFCAD files are, hense the problem, so try and find totally flat areas for this. I had a similar problem and its a bugger.

As for the autogen, I use a small freeware utility called ExcBuilder. You use ti to create an area where autogen is excluded, basically setting coordinates making a square, everythibng inside it disappears. It then creates a tiny bgl file you put in the scenery folder in FS. The only trick with it is you must be facing 000 when you set the coordinates, anythign either side of that means it wont compile. You'll find this on Avsim or I can send it next time I see you on MSN.

To face north just remember to hit the space key each time you move.
Also you may wish to use FSTFlatten a really good little programme which allows you to flatten an area, takes a bit of practice and get more difficult on sloping ground.

Yeah just to add to what Craig said:
When you're completely done with your taxiways and runways, create a nice wide "closed" taxiway and slide it under the runway.
If you make it of dirt and slightly wider than the runway, can look quite OK.

It also flattens like any taxiway. Doesn't help autogen objects unfortunately.
On that score: I discovered that autogen is pretty much unique to your setup, so a tree on your runway might not show up on someone else's system.
It depends I believe on what texture set you use.

Yes it's a "flattener" like all taxiways.
What it doesn't stop is trees and buildings popping up in the wrong place - they are produced by the autogen. For that you need exclude utilities.

I'm just starting to play with AFCAD as well. A whole new world is opening up. Natas put me onto a great tool called Excbuilder which you can use to remove unwanted objects from your scenery.

From nosing around various places the following program seems to be the most recommended way to flatten scenery so that you can place your AFCAD and other objects on it. Though as the others have eluded too it's not the only way. Nunner mentioned it. FSTFlatten is available here.

I loaded it up on my PC last night. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but from reading the "readme" and poking around it looks like it should be really user friendly.

I can see some Central North Island and Fiordland strips/helipads are going to be getting a visit from me very soon. Especially when Santa delivers EZ Scenery.
