Does anyone know how to use satellite pics (that have been accordingly converted for use with fs) as scenery (i mean put them onto the ground) and when this is done how do you make it so you can just use the ground bitmap file instead of any taxiways and runways (so you can just have the buildings and use the satelitte image for the airport polygons)
Any help would be appreciated

Are you talking about for FS9 or FSX, or both?

You need to bear in mind that FS2004 (and 2002) use a set resolution of 4.8 metres per pixel, which isn't really enough to define a runway or taxiway.
To use a higher resolution, you really need to define your features in GMAX, ideally using the FS8 gamepack, which makes nice photo-textured ground polygons.
However to use this gamepack you need to own the Pro version of FS2002. If you have that I can run you through the method I use.
