Was wondering how you guys use REX2. As in what settings do you run with or do you let it use random ones in terms of themes.
Any REX2 suggestions welcomed smile.gif

Rather doing a setting , many i have seen were shadows appear from the ground , this can only happen early morn or evening , best setting is look out the window and compare , this time off the year , the sky gets very watery in Christchurch , a bluey haze with low based at 1300 .. with the cloud appearing more defined as it gets closer .

I see screen shot were many off the cloud looks too dynamic , it can be if you stand still , good example is the recent screen over Norfolk for the cold northeaster to another example to Robs VCL shots in Milford , been to Wanaka in all sorts off weathers .. how the cloud builds up then spills over the top .

Think Venge , the best thing .. the fun part is play around with the setting yourself , big rule hear still to get it suit you , other gives you oppitunety for a screenie , i just use real world weather .

One other .. every one pcs show some off these addons so different .. another part to having a little play .

your going to enjoy this part off it ! smile.gif

Yes, everyone has their own idea of what the sky, clouds etc should look like, and the beauty of REX is that you can tweak it to match. When I first installed REX I played around with the textures for weeks, but now I have settled down to a pattern:
I normally use real-world weather, except for when I'm testing scenery, otherwise I'd spend a lot of time bumping into mountains....
I don't run REX often, but I have set it up to 'Run REX Weather Engine startup with FSX' in the Configuration Manager. The only problem with that is you can start a flight sitting on the runway, then REX loads a real nasty tail wind, so you have to shift to the other end of the runway...

Rather than change textures at random, I use REX's Weather tab to load the weather from the nearest weather station, then press 'WX Textures' which loads a set of textures to match. If they work out ok, then I keep those textures for a while, otherwise I just redo the process next time.

Load times sure take a while when things are maxed out!

Ok, I am slow but I eventually figure things out. Like it tried to tell me in the manual, I can really decrease loading times by checking the boxes for water and let it load. Then de-select the water check boxes. You still get your previously loaded water textures but no longer have to wait for new (or the bloody same) water textures to load each time. Obviously this is silly if you are wanting to experiment with various water texture changes, but if you are like me and just want to play with all the other texture options you can save yourself a ton of waiting to load time.

Matey trust me , Welcome to the world of Flightsim addons , a manual could be helpful , old saying - end of the day , in Flightsim world - Wellcome Sir , you can learn a lot , many feature,s added along with real world weather or whether not .

Thought I'd resurrect this old thread to ask a question about REX. I'm thinking of buying it but does it have any adverse affect on NZ scenery addons? I'm thinking specifically of the fact it replaces ground textures at airports etc wth its own. I would love to have a REX based weather and water experience but am reluctant to do so if it would override anything from VLC, Real NZ, Mike or Lawrie's sceneries.

I know the various elements in REX can be turned off individually which could be a solution, but how do you all use it in NZ alongside the various addons?

Cheers,

Ade

Cheers Ian, my order is in! cheers1.gif Good to know my painstakingly built up NZ install is safe. Will hopefully be able to experiment with the best settings over Christmas. The REX real world weather and sea effects look stunning.

Thanks,

Ade

Oh well I bit the bullet and bought Rex2, in the process of installation now. I was hoping someone here might be able to help.

It seems to want to install in it's own folder away from FSX, is this right or should I direct it to FSX?

Ok, I passed the hall way for half an hour and then went with it, I soon learn't that you direct it to the FSX folder from the config window once installed, so please ignore my previous post icon_redface.gif

I also bought it the other day and installed it. I shouldn't have installed it on my ssd had I known that it was going to make copies of everything in the fsx folder. A big waste of space on the SSD.

When I run out of space I guess I can uninstall it and put it on another hdd. I just unticked water but it still takes a long time for things to get started.

If I load up fsx I can see rex is getting the whether in the background and this doesn't impact start times so I will do that rather than using the 'fly now' in rex.

I assume that I keep using the same textures but it does the eyecandy job.

Wow she's a beast alright, slowly getting my head around it.

I wonder if Shade is able to be used with at the same time?

from what I read, yes, although you may need to run something line shade_nl as only one app can start fsx for you.

I was reading about it the other night, I am sure you will see it with a little googling.

Definitely, I use REX2+Shade+EnbSeries. Some REX themes behave a lot differently than normal with Shade -- some sky choices go very bright white, but it's just a matter of experimenting. And I find these brighter skies very effective at times.

EDIT: Another thing -- I think that REX overwrites the normal daily variations in FSX with one single setting, so it'll only use Day 1 in Shade.

Thanks for clearing that up Guys, looking forward to the coming weeks of experimenting. biggrin.gif
