Needing help

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby kiwitrav » Sun Mar 14, 2010 4:16 pm

I would really appreciate some help with solving this problem I have installing scenery. I fly with Flight Simulator 2004, with the OS Windows 7 now. I had no problem with this issue installing the Real NZ scenery, but it's come to haunt me know, especially when I have spare time available and can't utilise it the way I intended.
I have 2 disc's of Australian scenery to add, VOZ 1.5 and 1.6
When I selected the path to FS 9 and clicked "save", I get the message that I am unable because of "adminstrator".
Can anyone advise me how I can get to be the adminstrator to allow this to install ??
Much appreciated
Steve

If anyone can help me out on this problem I have got, it may save the computer from being thrown out the window. As I am not a technical computer wizz, I have come across the prblem of when adding scenery from a disc I have, the computer won't let me, as I need permission from the " administrator".
I have gone into the FS 9 folder in programs and tried clicking " administrator " and clicking change permissions, only to find when I go back to try and instal the disc, same answer, no permission.
I am at my wits end now, I'm afraid to go trying doing anything more radical in here, as I usually end up wipeing the whole OS system out by one keystroke.
Any help would be much appreciated, I am operating Flight Simulator 2004 and have Windows 7
Anyone can txt me on (021) 1020596 during the evenings and I would be only too happy to return a call by landline and foot the toll bill.
Many thanks,
Steve

I'm not too sure what you are trying to do here -- a few more details would help.
Are you saying that you are running an installer which gives you this message? What happens when you right-click on the installer, and choose 'run as administrator'?

You can always ring Microsoft 0800800004 and get their support I did this a while back when I was having trouble with shared files which kept telling me I needed Administrator permission.
If I could remember what they told me I could probably help but as I don't remember and didn't write it down a ring to them is the best I can offer biggrin.gif

Hi there,

Not sure if you tried to browse through some forums, but I found one with the answer:

Sounds like you aren't logged on with an account that has administrator priviledges. Can you try the copy with an administrator account? You'll probably get a prompt to OK the copy operation (depends on your UAC settings), but it should work. Once you've completed your copy/install you should be able to revert back to using the non-administrator account to run FS.

Rob,
I have retried to load this. I have a CD disc with all Australian scenery, VOZ 1.5. That has a number of exe files to load into Flight Simulator. When I load the CD, I click on the 1st exe to "save" to my Flight Simulator 9 folder, I get this, " You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission"
Question, am I doing this right, do I " save" it or "Run" it ?
I have left clicked, Right clicked, everything to TRY and find how to get into this darn computer to overcome this. How do I get the " Run as administrator" option in front of me, on the screen,so I can click it and run it as administrator. That's the problem.
I am sure going to give Microsoft an earful if I can't get a remedy from any of you guys, as to make a system so complex that one has to be an IT tech to just ADD files, it's just beyond belief.
I have spent hours in other forums looking, searching for anything that relates to "administrator", but to no avail.
Thanks again,
Steve

You should 'run' the installers -- there is really no reason I can think of for putting the installer exes into the sim folder. However it may or may not help.
Does the CD come with install instructions?
Windows has a number of built-in safeguards to prevent messing up program installations, and I think this is what you are seeing here. Basically anything in the 'Program Files' folder is included in this protection, and for good reason. That's one of the reasons why some users like to install FS outside of the Program Files folder, though.
Failing that, there are a lot of times when you need administrator privileges. Do you actually have administrator rights on your computer? If not, who does? When you view your profile, is it listed as 'administrator'?
If not, which account is? You won't get the 'run as administrator' option unless you are actually the administrator.
If you do have admin rights, and are logged in with an admin account, then it may just be an issue with the folder permissions.
Browse to your Program Files folder, and right click on your FS2004 folder. Choose 'properties' and open the 'security' tab.
In the 'group or user names' box, you may see yourself twice -- once as the current User, and once as the Administrator. Check that the admin rights are actually there. Press F1 to access the help system for a good explanation of how the security settings properties work.
