What is this NZ SRTM Mesh like?

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Hi guys,

I've got Red Baron's 75m mesh (freeware). I was wondering if this is better in terms of appearance? I found it on Flightsim.com. Its called "New Zealand & Islands SRTM Mesh".

Cheers, SB

I doubt you will find a better freeware NZ mesh than the old RedBaron 75m one...

Basically all the SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) meshes use the same data... acquired by the Space Shuttle... so theoretically, will all be the same...

EXCEPT, the SRTM has lots and lots of "issues"... big spikes and sink holes where the radar signals were not reflected correctly... the RedBaron one, also based on SRTM, was then painstakingly corrected by Christian, I believe he did this by using measurements from NZ topo maps and hand correcting the data...

The only better mesh, is the RBE/SimPilot "Mountains of NZ" (aka 20m Mesh)...

Small correction: The Sim Pilot meshes don't use any SRTM, they are directly based on contours...

don't remind me - it was a bunch of work at the time, but it did pay off (in my opinion at least winkyy.gif )
