there is to many up sides to them doing work to enhance NZ, like using the new ground textures they build with VLC data ,wonder how that will work ,i have seen it done already in other ftx scenerys ie PNW ,some dude re land classed the rest of Canada all you need is pnw to make it work "cool ". i can see all this work being very handy[/quote]

Hello Creator2003, could you elaborate a little on this?, and send me a link to this please

Yeah sure ,the textures used with FTX pnw or ozzy can be re landclass to the rest of the world if you know how to do it ,then that file that calls those textures from your pnw will cover other areas assigned by default landclass ,there are people that have done this with there pnw but i couldnt tell you where the freeware file is ,as i dont use follow ftx anymore ,but there is nothing stopping anyone doing the same with what they have already purchase, it would be like a repaint for a aircraft etc

Like i said i dont know where you may find this file or if it was released on the mass but it is very possible just like others call default textures to re landclass other areas of the world ,be like re gaugeing your favorite payware aircraft and sticking those data files changes on flightsim.com ,there is no differance just alot of work involved making the files needed to re crete abit of landclass for users of a payware product etc

G'day One and All,

First post, so treat me gently.

The add on scenery for FSX is starting to look quite impressive, and we're fortunate to have the versatile and long life Msoft flight sim that can handle it, together with the ever improving techo stuff to drive it, not to mention the dedicated people who develop the scenery, be they freeware and/or payware producers.

The other thing which helps us enjoy this hobby (or mania as the case may be) is that we have the choice of trying any scenery which comes along, keeping what we like or ditching the other.

Personally, I have been impressed by ORBX Australian scenery because it looks like the real country it depicts, and let's hope any NZ scenery they produce does the same, but if it doesn't the word will spread and any better scenery will prevail - time will tell.

The success or failure of scenery is in the eye of the beholder, and part of the enjoyment for me is picking out which looks good on my equipment, then flying it low and slow, no matter who produced it.

I haven't done much simming around NZ, mainly because the default doesn't go anywhere near depicting your wonderful country as it really is, so I have high hopes for both VLC and ORBX to come up with something good and take it from there. It will be great if they are both good products and we can switch between the two.

Happy simming, Lapun

I heard over 1000 airports for NZ South Island, though they have only made 300 for OZ from whats said above in the last many years, they have been out doing this sort of thing since VOZ, a great effort but no where near 1000 odd said for nz if there is only 300 they have complete for OZ i some how find it weird them doing ours before the rest of theres ,maybe its a lack of airports to do or that over advertising again ..

I can also confirm ive heard it wont be long away ,that means we dont have long to talk about it before all this is just more scenery to add to the library manager and lots more screenshots if they can supply what they say they can .

I don't know where you got the 1000 airstrips for the South Island. You would be pushing it to find 500 for the whole of NZ. And that includes top dressing strips. I have flown all over NZ and a quick look through my log book says I have only landed on about sixty strips.

I think you are getting mixed up with ORBX abd OZx. Orbx does mainly landclass and a few major fields. OZx does all the minor fields. The 300 (now closer to 400) you mention were all done by OZx. We all know that this isn't even half of the available number. But there's more comming all the time. Another ten years and all maybe done. You must bear in mind that all the OZx developers and part time amateurs. They are under no compulsion on what they do and how much they do. When they complete a field it is submitted to the beta testers and if it passes scrutiny it is released. All strips must fit on top of ORBX andmust not clash.
ORBX is a professional business and of course they are there to make money. That is the main reason they are working on PNW at present.

The main reason I started this thread was purely informational. I doubt very much if ORBX New Zealand will be compatible with VLC and I don't believe that sales for the area will be big enough to support two versions. So the better version will survive. At least VLC will be the first out.

Read the first post of this thread over at Orbx. 1135 airports or airstrips in the South Island will be enhanced by Orbx just as they did for the PNW

http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php?topic=24015.0

Obviously VLC won't be compatible with Orbx NZ as they essentially offer the same thing and BTW VLC is out.
