I have a dream...

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Timmo » Mon Jan 07, 2008 7:47 pm

Yep- this is something that ive also been thinking about so I will put my hand up- Im certainly learning all the time but think I can offer something.

I think we should also outline some sort of project scope and split it into stages: Flightsim has so many components (Airports, AI, LandClass, autogen trees) that if the scope is too large the project may loose focus.

Im starting a new job in Auckland on the 14th so its possible/probable that I wont have much time to give to FS over the next little while.....

I would be keen to be part of this project... how does one get involved?

I can't design, paint, draw, in fact I'm lucky if I can breath on any given day knowing how my brain works - which is why this is a great idea. I've often thought about downloading the scenery for NZ, but it seems something new is always coming. Now - if I could download it all in a chunk (ala VOZ) you would make me as a pig in royal mud.

Also if there was something I could contribute with - even if it's just saying how good it's going, then I would be keen to join in. I may live in Aussie, but I still fly most of the time in NZ.
When asked what I have contributed to on this earth my reply will be my daugther

Yes generally i take lots of photos at all the towns airports i visit if i can get there ,this time i was aloud to walk around NZPN pretty freely and meet the guys from New Zealand Helicopters that let me walk around and take photos of there sheds and pad ,oh and got a look at the choppers ofcourse ,
next down the the main terminal and asked nicely if i could walk out on the runway side of the airport and even that was no problem ,really nice front door shots
anyway ill post some photos later ..
as for the scenery building yes i would like to do this airport ,but i was more think along the lines of FSX and a group effort ,keeping in topic
I would still say go for it lawrie if you have t on your too do list ..

Excellent idea. Im with everyone else. New to this and there is so much NZ scenery and airports that I want but do not know how to install so have to stick with the default. A a newbie I strongly recomend two forums. On private for developers etc to discuss matters and one public so the developers can get an idea of what the AVERAGE JOE wants from this sort of undertaking. No good making a project which only satisfies the minds and hearts of a few. That is my 10 cents worth from a my many years on club committees etc.
All the best with this project and I am watching and hopefully reading with great interest the progress of this.

Ditto me - I am happy to contribute to this as well. As you said Timmo there are many different areas and it is very difficult to co-ordinate all this. Likewise getting consistency across a myriad of designers, but it is possible to do if broken down and managed properly. But I believe the first step is getting a good base, that means the mesh and landclass etc. Looks like Timmo and Christian have made great in roads into this, I especially like the landclass you are working on Timmo for FSX as this aligns so well with photoreal.
For my part I am a 3D designer foremeost and a bit of a stickler for accuracy, but until we have an agreed base scenery its hard to start laying down airports and scenery features.
Of course we don't want to step on Robins C's toes and in my mind his scenery will always be top priority for compatibility and fit with anything freeware.

Hi Christian
Where would we go about finding said forum?

Regards
Richard

I would like to offer some form of support for this project. I have not a hell of a lot but some experience in designing, more specifically in AFCADS but even if my skills are less than standard i'm quite happy to help out elsewhere on the project. A project you may know is ardmore photoreal uploaded to avsim, this wasn't perfect but definately got me excited about what can be achieved. i'd also like to join the new forum.

Regards,

Kelvin

Sounds like a massive project to make happen. If this project does go ahead, count me in.
