It looks like ORBX FTX Global replaces VOZ 1.8 (FS 2004) for FSX.

£64 for the DVD version delivered!...(I like DVD versions!).

Paul, you might want to buy from Flightstore.co.uk instead as they have the FTX AU SP4 DVD version for £49.95 at the moment. Not sure how they would honour the Orbx senior discount though. I've always had good service from them. Personally, I found it cheapest to import my Orbx DVDs from Aerosoft but it looks like that wouldn't be an option for you as they seem to only offer the downloads now. Since Orbx dropped their DVD versions, I've changed to ordering from The FlightSimStore (again very good service).

You're right in thinking that FTX AU is the spiritual descendant of VOZ. VOZ's originator Koorby (aka John Venema) is the founder and boss of Orbx and FTX started life as VSX (VOZ Scenery X). It is payware but trust me, it's worth every penny. If you like VOZ, prepare to see Australia on a whole new level. The DVD integrates the four regions (similar to the VOZ approach) so you get the whole country in one installation. It is primarily a landclass and ground texture replacement (unlike VOZ there aren't airports included), but of course there are a lot of addons you can get for it, both payware and freeware. The best approach for you would be to install it, then add Orbx's freeware airports. OZx is also a must-have... this is a free download (see aussiex.org) which adds hundreds of small airports, landmarks and scenery to Australia on top of FTX. Many of the developers in both the Orbx team and OZx were formerly involved with VOZ so you know everything will be of a high quality. There are also a range of quality addons for FTX from third party developers, again to be found on the OZx site.

I started off by getting FTX AU and a couple of payware airports to go with it - Brisbane and Melbourne - and liked it so much, well you know how that goes... laugh.gif

Hope that helps,

Ade

Hello Adrian...

Ta for the post...

I have just purchased FTX Global from the Flight Sim Store...DVD version for...wait for it...

One Hundred and Seven Australian Dollars!..... ohmy.gif ... ohmy.gif ...!

The most money I have ever spent on any single piece of Flight Sim Software...or Hardware!!

I just hope I don't get disappointed after the glorious scenery installations in my present FS 2004!

Most of my regular daily flights are in the USA, mostly California and the neighbouring States...Fantastic, varying scenery, which I know like the back of my hand!

..using FS 2004; VOZ 1.8, FS Global SE and Ultimate Terrain USA + Canada, Free scenery, and various free Meshes for selected areas.

ORBX FTX Global for FSX will now be added to my present UT USA for FSX....(Freeware add-on airfields may be added if and when required)

I'm mostly interested in exploring beautiful "scenery" in my trusty Cessna 150 Aerobat!

So its now time for a comparison between my two Sims FS 2004 v FSX at low level!

Paul...The fight is on!.... laugh.gif ...!

Just did the "Conversion" thingy....

..and 107.00 Australian Dollars = 62.30 British Pounds....

....which isn't quite as frightening terrifying!

PHEW!...!

I felt exactly the same... a huge surge of relief to see that figure in GBP! laugh.gif

You certainly won't regret it though Paul, from what I've seen so far. I now have FTX Global as my default, plus FTX AU and NZ (though for NZ I mostly fly with VLC, which looks stunning using the FTX Global textures) and Horizon and Earth Simulations photoscenery for the UK.

I haven't explored outside these regions much yet, but have been really impressed by FTX Global from a few test flights. Norway is stunning (of course Orbx have a proper Norway region due soon) and previously poorly realised areas such as Africa are now full of interest and variation. Even the FSX default flight from Friday Harbor looks much better! ohmy.gif

Enjoy,

Ade

After reading about this VOZ thingy for FS9, thought I'd try it but the switcher doesn't work in Win 7. Which are the best bits to manually replace? Can I just replace the textures with those in the North folder or what?
