ORBX and AFS2

Postby Charl » Wed Jun 14, 2017 9:56 am

For various reasons, I have avoided ORBX over the years.
But I will absolutely dip a toe into their upcoming (=tomorrow!) scenery for FS2.
It's remarkable, and what you'd expect from a true 64 bit sim: very high definition and very high performance.

The test for me will be: looking from the terminal buildings at Innsbruck, over the runway to the mountains beyond.
No extant sim has managed to render this properly.

Yes, very keen to hear your feedback. The initial Orbx shots of AFS2 really impressed me, even with my anti-orbx glasses on... I am biased towards photoscenery, though, it's great that we have a platform where photoscenery isn't the poor relation.

By the way, Charl, just took my first flight this morning, I've had to put it away for the moment to get some work done, but after doing my recent Prepar3d/X-plane comparisons, it certainly holds its own in a lot of areas.

Pretty darn impressive. Will they be doing all the seasons....would probably make for a hefty download.

Bandwidth again: I am reminded of downloading 10MB files on a 2400 modem...
I am told my 2 TB HDD will be full in no time, oh the 1st-world problems we live with!
just took my first flight
Excellent! I try not to let Work interfere with Play but it's a toughie alright.
I find FS2 great for a quick fly. There will be a time when it has just enough meat on it, to be totally convincing without being a Juggernaut Sim.

I have FS2 and am so blown away by the graphics, I get around 180-200 FPS most of the time in all scenery night time included even around cities, I feel that this sim coupled with Orbxis going to be the killer sim of the future, Cant wait to download Lowi and Innsbruck they look incredible! The sim maybe missing a few bits and pieces for the hardcore simmers but its just early days and for me the eye candy is more than enough to keep me frothing at the mouth lol. Would so love to see some of your scenery in this sim Robin :)
