Scenery that Works for Me

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Charl » Fri Jul 14, 2006 9:07 am

The poll is not meant to rubbish anyone's efforts, but some older sceneries may have issues with the newest mesh available, or other issues you may wish to air.
It might make it easier for a visitor wanting to get into NZ airspace, not to have to learn what we already know here.
And there will be sceneries not listed that are a must-have, no doubt.

Howdy,

Re the poll: conspicious by its absence is NZCH by the NZ Scenery Design Group (either the stand alone version or the photo-real Christchurch and airport).

Agree others also that are worthy of mention - scenery depends on taste and need to add Heath Wells 'Hamner to Coast Scenery' this is best view'd in your favourite mud hugger ! , Rip in thru the valleys pop out and into Kaikoura or go the other way , huge area to explore .

With also his Timaru South Canterbury which sits well with Robin Corns Timaru , Heaths Invercargill ,agian depend on how u see areas , I prefer Murray Halls NZNV version , bias due to an airport :ph43r:

David Quirey's Whangarei NZWN should be recomended for IFR , (choice spot for Fred Ladds Grumman Goose/Widgeon ) .

I voted REAL NZ Auckland + old Godzone photoreal. I might change my mind though, with my payware Red Baron Mesh+Topo scenery due in the mail, mind you, the Geographx 75m freeware mesh has worked wonders for up untill now :D

As for the Christchurch airport addons. As far as I know there are two- one fs2004 one with out of proportion building sizes, and one that was included in the old Godzone magazine.

I don't like either of them particularly- especially the 2nd one I mentioned because when ever I try to start a flight from a gate rather than an active runway, I always get an error message up saying I am colliding with something or other. Plus, the graphics are not up to fs2002 standards and it takes away a lot of fps. I love the banks peninsular scenery though ;)

That's exactly the sort of information the poll was meant to bring out! (Apart from the fact that the forum only allows 15 choices :D in a poll )

I am a little confused by what one should be using down Christchurch way.
There are several versions of the airport, the city, and environs. Anyone got a list of what works best?

As I have a low end system iv never really explored the scenery aspect of flightsim yet. So for fairness sake I won't vote, But ill say that for christchurch I use the NZCH and christchurch photoreal from new zealand scenery , and I use te 75m geographix mesh of coures lol. I have a addon wellington airport (don't no who made it) and photoreal real scenery for wellington by Robin Corn, I think the christchurch scenery i have is just wounderful and have had no problems with it apart from something with the install.
Im buying a new pc soon so I will be exploring all these scenery titiles so Its great to see what things are worht getting :D

Thanks
James

Default airport and afcad- Godzone photoreal scenery (city and peninsular) and 3D Buildings for me.

You have put Auckland City twice by the way ;)

Ah that makes it the winner by far.
(They also do that in polls to test for consistency :P .)
Wonder who voted for the first but not the second??
I don't find a method of editing polls, so ...

I fly New Zealand skies mainly, so after meshes, topos and similar stuff to enhance things, Snowman's work to bring life to virtually every airstrip in the country has made the biggest difference to my simming.

Surely there should be a category for his bulk work......? or is this an FSX poll ?

The poll is almost three years old, which shows how much Lawrie has accomplished in a short time...

Maybe it is time to start a new poll as there are some missing out of this one like where is REAL NZ MARLBOROUGH and maybe the poll should have listings for FSX scenery and FS9 scenery.

In the big picture, I voted for the Red Baron Mesh.

The godzone airports would be up there as well..

Is Robin Corns Kaikoura released?

LOL Lawrie, you resurrected it again after 8 or so months! Anyway, lets see how many new votes we get now, my money is on some people not even reading the posts or the original date and just voting cause they love polls smile.gif

When is FSX coming out anyway?? laugh.gif

This crops up occasionally -- it is easy to vote in an old poll, and this bumps the topic to the top. Or it did, I've just tweaked it so that votes in general forum polls (that is, not support forums) shouldn't bump the thread.

The person who instigated a poll can always request that it be locked if it has passed it's use-by date.
