For these airports by Ian Warren, does anybod know how I can disable the ground polygons so that I can make one out of an AFCAD?

It is fiddly but it can be done. Ian compiled his airports with one bgl file containing all the scenery and accompanied it with an exclude file to remove all the stock scenery. Carefully placed exclude objects (in a higher scenery layer) will remove objects in his scenery but the fiddly bit is that it is hard to exclude the bits you don't want to see without excluding the bits you want to retain. Once you've accomplished this the default runway and taxiway polygons may dissapear as well - although AI traffic will behave as if they are there. You may have to dissable Ian's exclude file (I move it to a new folder within the scenery folder so FS9 won't find it without me deleting and loosing it) and then create more carefully crafted exclude files to remove the default buildings that will re-appear. You can then modify an AFCAD file to suit.

It is a long and potentially frustrating process but it is ultimately rewarding in the end - even if it only gives you a better appreciating of how Flight Simulator builds scenery.

Right. I will try that soon. So it is possible to exclude only the Runway and taxiways? Would program would be best for this?

I use Flight Simulator Scenery Creator (FSSC) from I think flightsim.com. It's very old - designed for FS2002 and doesn't utilise FSUIPC so it's clunky to use but I like it. There are other bits of freeware on the main libraries that are designed specifically to make exclude files.

Okay, sorry to start this back up, but if anyone does have any excludes for NZWN and NZNS could they tell me how to make them or even possible send them? (I tried with FSSC etc. but I could only get the runway and some tarmac to disappear but I couldn't get the afcad to appear.)

FSSC exclude files tend to remove all visible scenery. AFCAD runway polygons will dissapear if the exclude file you created covers the centre-point of the runway. Sometimes you have to create a series of small excludes for each of Ian's polygons that you don't want to see without impacting on an AFCAD polygon.

By any chance had you made exclude files for these airports?

I've done a couple for Wellington - but only to remove static aircraft. We may be using different NZWN scenery. I haven't done Nelson yet.
