FS9 and 20m

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

I am out of touch with loading this program. I have loaded FS9 ok. Checked out Paraparaumu which appeared ok. Then loaded 20M and now Paraparaumu has cliffs around runway.
It looks as though I haven't loaded the 20M correctly although I followed the Manual. Anyone point me in the right direction please.? I don't want to go any further until I get this right.
CPU: Intel Core i5 760 @ 2.8GHz. Motherboard: Asus P7P55 LX. RAM: Kingston Hyper X 8GB 1600mhz DDR3 Non ECC. SSD: Samsung 250GB. HDD: WD !TB.
GRAPHICS: Asus GTX460, Direct CU 1GB GDDR5 256bit video graphics card. PSU: Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 650W. CASE: Cooler Master Gladiator.

Can anyone confirm that once you install 20M then you have trouble with runways appearing to be sunken?. I am doing a new install on a different PC and so far have only installed the 20m so it can't be any conflicts or suchlike. Any comments or help would be appreciated.

Yes,........... this is normal, particularly for default airports and airfields, and for any addon sceneries NOT made for the 20m mesh.
The default elevations for NZ in FS9 are hopelessly incorrect,.......... as are many other things for NZ.

Thanks Lawrie. I am getting back into FS after some time away and am finding it is a new learning curve LOL. So I guess I just carry on installing Topo and Landclass and then
worry about the airports.? I presume, for example, any problems with Wellington Intl, for example, will be fixed when I install "Real NZ Wellington International Airport & City" or is it not that simple.?

ALL of Robin's RealNZ sceneries are made to fit the 20m mesh. So, essentially yes, all should be good when you install RealNZ Welly..........
Most NZ scenery builders (for FS9), usually build their sceneries to fit the 20m mesh these days.

I have another small problem that you may be able to help me with. I have two hard-drives both partitioned. One has "C" and "D" and the other "E" and "F". On the "E" partition FSX has been previously installed
(not by me). I am installing FS9 on the "D" partition. When I go to install Topo the wizard wants to install it on the "E" partition but I want it on the FS9 "D" partition. There is no choice of path. Is there any way
I can overcome this.?

Ignore that Lawrie. My old brain has just connected. All I have to do is copy the files from "E" to "D". I am afraid old age is catching up fast LOL. Although I don't know why the Wizard doesn't give you a choice of paths.

Can you tell me what the prefixes "brh" "brr" "bru" etc attached to the bgl are.? Or where can I find what they represent.?

Also, I note that topo is installed in the FSX program. Can I just copy the .BGL files over to topo in my FS9 installation.? Is there any way of finding out what
.bgl files with the prefix RDU are?. e.g. RDU992480?.

You really can't install the topo that way -- the installer renames some of the default files to deactivate them. If you install it somewhere else, it won't be able to rename them, so you'll end up with doubled-up topo scenery.

OIC. Well how can I install topo to my "D" partition where I have FS9 when it doesn't give me a choice of path even though the Installation instructions say that you can specify the path?.
Appreciate your help.

Where do you get the 20m mesh from now?
I've tried following all the links, but they all seem to lead to the combo scenery of NZ at Sim Pilot Shop.

As far as I know only the 75m mesh was ever a freebie, you will need to splash out for the 20m one. I just bought the combo pack and am really pleased with it, the roads-n-rivers part especially makes VFR flights a dream.

Yep - I've got the 75m. I was going to buy the 20m, but, according to Christian from Sim Pilot Shop, the 20m is included with the NZ combo......so Ive bought that....hoping....

The combo is the topo+20m mesh, if there's any confusion. You can buy them [topography and/or mesh] separately or together from http://www.simpilotexperience.com. smile.gif
