Portland Scenery - non NZ

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Naki » Fri Aug 08, 2008 10:39 pm

I was going to put this under the outstanding scenery outside NZ thread but there are far too many images and I don't really think I have done it justice (taken too early inthe morning - virtual time) - this scenery is more than an airport it is four airports (one major international, one major GA and two small GAs) and the whole Portland metropolitan area (all photo real). Has amazing grass and runway textures and neat touches like moving traffic, nicely made airport runway and taxiway signs & lights.

This is Troudale (KTTD) down one end of Portland - isn't as detailed as the other airports but still real nice.

Fly past of Portland International - on the way to landing at Pearson onthe other side of the Columbus River from Portland International - Pearson is actually located in the Washington State as opposed to the others which are located in Oregon.

Approaching Pearson (KVUO)

Buildings in the foreground house an aviation museum - Pearson is one of the oldest airfields in Washington State

The Columbus River

Portland International (KPDX)

Plenty of AI - Horizon, Alaskan, American and Southwest are the major airlines here

THe USAF is also based here with F-15s (ANG unit) - this is their hangers

Phantom Gate Guardians

Portland City CBD in the background

Hillsboro (KHIO) - major GA field

The Eaglesoft Twin Comanche is nice as well

They are maxxed - I have lost my editing programme I was using and I was using another one, so the screenshots arent the best - it looks a lot better in the sim.

Nicely presented. What scenery package are you using and is this FSX or FS9? I'm assuming FSX.

Thanks guys - its FS9 (no FSX version available) and is available at Flight1 and probably at other sim addon sellers -

Just a note on the frame rates - although they may look quite bad in some of my shots the my sliders are maxd out, theres plenty of AI (WOAI, HTAI, Ultimate GA), there are addon water & enviroment textures, I was running Active Sky and FRAPS and the Twin Comanche is quite FPS hungry in some views - the scenrey is actually very frame rate friendly
