NZNV Sinking Runways!

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby s0cks » Wed Feb 13, 2008 11:31 am

Hi guys,

New here! Hello :) I just got round to re-installing FS9 and its a mammoth task! Just setting it up for NZ at the moment. Anyway, I got all of Snowmans airports (excellent stuff!) and some of Creator2003's. Now I found a April 2006 version Invercargill on AVSIM. I installed it (not the photoreal stuff though) and it looks great. The only problem is my aircraft was floating above the ground. I created a flatten which worked superb. Now all my taxiways and parking are correct but my runways are still not.

Whenever I go onto a runway my plane sinks by I would say 1ft? (half the wheels). The flatten is set to 7ft. I tried changing the AFCAD to 7ft too, but it appears to do nothing. I moved the AFCAD to ..scenery\world\scenery with no luck either. The runway just sits under the terrain so it kind of dissapears at angles into the ground. I guess I need to somehow drop the scenery elevation or get the damn runways to lift themselves up.

Anyone got any ideas?

BTW I think this is because I'm using the 20m mesh.

On further inspection it seems that none of the AFCAD is at the right height as the AI planes in parking are sunk into the ground too. I think the scenery itself has the taxiway built into it, so the actual AFCAD is still sitting below the airport.

Hi s0ck, I can't help you with released 2005 version of Invercargill , If you have further problems , I would install the below , Scenery and maybe of some help

Photoreal scenery for the City of Invercargill and its airport. It covers an area of land approx 1,100 square kilometres, which is located on the southern coast of the South Island of New Zealand.

Actually thats the one I have. I must have got my dates wrong. Do you need to install the City stuff as well for it to flatten properly?

Nope. It just will not work. If I remove the flatten then the runways sit properly but the plane floats, at what I would guess to be 1-2ft above the airport. It is extremely strange. I tried turning off the 20m mesh and it made no difference.

To evaluate:

- Flatten to 7ft causes plane to sit properly on airport but not runways
- No flatten causes plane to float above airport but runways sit properly
- Mesh makes no difference
- Changing runway or airport elevation in AFCAD makes no difference

It HAS to be a strange thing with the scenery?

Did you put a copy of the AFCAD in \Scenery\World\scenery, having searched your whole FS folder to make sure there isn't another orphan AFCAD somewhere?

Hi Charl,

Yes I tried that. Seemed to make no difference.

Hi Ian,

I think there is a combination of two problems. For starters the AFCAD for your scenery has moved the airport to fit with the mesh. Even without your scenery and just the AFCAD the runways still sink into the ground. To fix this I have to attack the AFCAD and set ALL elevations to 5ft. BUT to get my aircraft to "sit" on your scenery I need to flatten to 7ft (not 5).

Here is the flatten:

Flatten.0=7,S46 24.76,E168 17.96,S46 24.48,E168 19.55,S46 25.22,E168 19.62,S46 25.16,E168 18.20

If I flatten to 7ft WITHOUT your scenery my plane sinks deep into the runway. I found a fix for this by editting the stock AFCAD to 7ft also (no idea why this works). So I can get it perfect before I enable your scenery. But when I do enable it, no matter what, it buggers it all up. Like I said; with the flatten the runways appear to be sunk into the ground and without the flatten my plane floats above your scenery.

I expected that you would need to install the photoreal too, but I just never tried it! Woops! :o The problem is the photoreal is not of a quality I would like, espcially when using GE Pro, so I just want the airport :) I will have a search for earlier versions but I don't remember seeing anything.

I just tried with the photoreal city scenery installed as well and I get the same problem of the floating plane. I've set everything back to defaults and reinstalled your whole scenery again but yup, same thing. By the way, the photoreal is actually better than I remembered! :)
