Autogen Trees

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Kelburn » Mon Aug 27, 2007 12:43 pm

How can I put autogen trees into FS as I'm creating an Airport which in real life is surrounded by trees but FS has no trees so I want to put them in.
I use FSSC for my scenery if it is any help.

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

Just a reminder that it makes sense to state the version you are working with in your post. However I'll assume FS2004.
You can either use an existing tree library, or make your own. I used to use Arno's trees library from SceneryDesign.org. They are similar to autogen, but can be placed using any object placement tool.
Now I tend to make my own, as I can control the quality that way. Mine are just simple planes, tweaked to always face the viewer.

do you have a link to Arno's trees?
Also do they come in API?
This is where I have trouble because too many api's make the sim slower.
And it covers FS2002 and 2004

Kelburn, you're working with FS2002, if memory serves me correct?

Best bet is to download Gerrish Gray's Tree Library (v.3); within you will find a Tree Library (set of 24 .api macros) which plays very nicely with FSSC. Do read the Trees Library Manual and the Index very carefully; they contain valuable information on mass "planting" in sceneries.

Hope this is of some small assistance.

Dorian

There is this thing called goggle search engine kelburn ,i dont want to be mean but mate all of us used it ,scenerydesign.org or com i forget or fsdeveloper.org or com i forget ,or just goggle search it , we as people who had to search these thing to learn new stuff did it the hard way by asking someone would tell you what you mite need then goggle it and really find out what they meant no links ,thats to easy and you will never learn the other bits and pieces that you will no doubt ask again again for ,,you could used the auto gen aninater as well putting default trees in that way ,this is a good way as people can just turn up or down the agn silder to what there system can handle ,but if there was a exclued they wont show up ,thats where you would use modeled trees like robin has discribed ... want to find out more ?goggle search it winkyy.gif

Google searching doesn't get me far with FS.
Anyway I know about Gerrish Gray's trees but I don't know how to use them and the manual is beyond me. It says you need SCASM or something. What is that?

Ok, Arno's trees won't work in FS2002, just FS2004.
Gerrish's trees would be your best bet then, it does include APIs from memory, just install them in both FS and FSSC and you can place them like any other API.

http://www.google.com/search?q=SCASM+for+f....netscape:en-US
every time you goggle something put fs after it or what is bla bla and put fs2002 fs fs2004 fs9 flightsim etc after it ,,the sites above in my last post are where you will find out alot of these things anyway ,,i didnt know what exactly what that scasm was but quick goggle "scasm for fs ,and im very clear what it does where to get it .. im on 14kb conection at the moment and finding links for people can be a pain ,,not saying i have to find them ,but people do to help you ,at lest you could do is help yourself by learning to find some of these things yourself etc ....Not everyone gets everything given to them on a sliver plater ,if they do they miss out on learning the basics of life ,
I cant read very well and alot of this fs stuff doesnt make sence the first time i read it ,
but i sit there for hours sometime months if ive given up and said ive had enough, but to learn i have to go back to it search some more and then i get it at some point ,
i would get no where if someone gives me a link direct to things all the time and i dont read the little bits and pieces on the way to the product software etc ...
im not getting at you dude just that we arent really doing you any good by giving you links to something you have no idea on
perfect exsample was gmax and msl4 and gamepack shortcut ,you didnt know what it was where to get it ...if you had of read in the docos it is clear what you would of needed to have or if you had done one goggle search it on that error code and put fs or gmax and the end it would have told you what you needed ,without having to wait for HCP to tell you ,this save alot of time in design ....
now i hope you dont hate me more i am truly only trying to help you
if there is something that you truly cant workout by all means ask for help ,but try using the resources already out there ,you will find in this part of the forum about trees autogen and many other topics ive started or others have ,you mite find something of intrest there you never know until you look ... winkyy.gif

Howdy Kelburn,

If you're creating/compling scenery with FSSC, you already have a copy of SCASM (this is the original .bgl complier used by MS from FS5-FS2000). If you require a more up-to-date version, go here.
