Here are some pointers for a repaint photoshoot:
1. Try for a bright overcast day so you don't get sun highlights. Or just wait for a cloud, and make sure you have spot exposure on the A/C.
2. Shoot square side on, from quite a distance; say whatever fills the frame on max optical (not digital) zoom so you don't get distortion.
3. You want to see what's on the side of the A/C so slightly downward for a low wing (if you can stand on something):

and from below for the high-wingers:

If there are special markings, try to get up close to get detail:

Shoot the picture at max camera resolution for archive, usually though 1MB suffices for the repaint template.
I've made contact with North Shore Aero Club, so I'm off on the next good day for my crop B)
Of course all you spotters could help out too, next time you find yourself at your favourite aerodrome!
