At the risk of sounding like every other post about reinstalling FSX I thought - what the heck - thats what forums are for.
Just need advice explained to help me:
I had reinstalled Windows and am now about to reinstall FSX.
Previously it wasn't running the way it should have under my system:
Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz, 2394 Mhz
NVIDIA GeForce 880 GTS 512
RAM 4GB

With frame rates of 8fps... seems people on systems with half of mine were getting twice the performance (at least)
**although funnily enough when I reinstalled my device driver for my GeForce card it seemed to kick into life (like I could actually hear the fan from the card which I never had before..??)**
But that's not really issue just yet

1. I've been told NOT to install FSX into C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games... but simply C:\Microsoft Flight Simulator...
Apparently issues around the Program Files folder?
What have others heard?

2. In regards to installing NZ scenery - I looove the Godzone stuff.
My problem lies with the 'NZ Mesh'
Everyone says to use the Red Baron mesh - however when I go their website (:
a) I dont't know what to download - people say 20m mesh, 75m mesh... but I can't actually locate any download that sounds like that?
b) Installing a mesh? Is it the same as any other scenery add-on?

3. The Red Baron Mesh is my main problem - so ANY specific help with this would be GREATLY appreciated!
But next in regards to other scenery addons - what are the best (freeware/payware) and in what order should I install the scenery?

Well, that's my essay for tonight.
I would really appreciate any help with any of my problems above.
Cheers!!!

If you want the RB 75m Mesh it is free and can be downloaded from here'
http://www.geographx.co.nz/downloads/mesh75.zip
If you want the 20m Mesh it is now called Mountains of New Zealand and can be purchased for about $75.00 from
http://www.simpilotexperience.com
You can also download for free New Zealand Landclass Scenery from the same site.
Hope this helps with your problem.

Doug

dont think installing under a different place will help, the only way it might is if your HDD is very slow speed and your program files are highly fragged.

8fps is almost blasphemus with those specs, theres something wrong.

Went through a very long process of setting changes and modifications along with using 'nHancer' and now is running at about 30fps max
Makes a BIG difference!!

I used info from this link and found a major increase on performance ( http://www.highflightsimulations.com/recommended.html ) My PC spec's are also considerably higher than yours, but the before and after results speak for themselves though these setting worked for me, may not work for all users.

I'm aware that Vista's UAC makes it difficult to manually edit config files within Program Files, which includes adding liveries to aircraft.cfg files.

Thanks for that. After a quick look, it seems that some of my fsx.cfg edit experiments could actually be making things worse! Time to start with a clean .cfg file I think!
