So, once FSX is released in New Zealand, what will happen to our beloved FS9?
Personally, I have chosen option number 1 for the time being, as I have spent a long time tweaking my fs2004 to get it running just the way I like it, and want to spend some time enjoying my good settings before starting the tweaking process all over again.
But eventually, I will have to swap to FSX once the time comes when no one is bothering to create new planes or scenery for fs2004...

Because I spend a lot of time devoping scenery and aircraft it makes sense that I start to focus on FSX. It seems certain that most if not all the stuff developed for FS2004 should be compatible with FSX with minimal change.
I will probably keep FS2004 up and running until everything I am working on is 'transferred' to FSX

i think it will be 2 years before everyone has moved to FSX
which is just the right amount of time for FS11 to be released

I got option 2.
With my system specs:
2.4 p4 procecsor
768mb RAM
256mb geforce 5600
I don't think ill have very good performance at all and im just lately getting good fps in fs9 ,something iv been trying to get for 2years. But I will still "play" fsx just too see what its all about, and at least ill have it there for when I have the system to run it

gonna stick with fs9 for a while anyway until all the hoopla dies down and I get a real idea of what is and isn't smoke. Just got a whole lot of software for my birthday last week , activesky6 , ultimate night pro2007, nz 20m mesh etc to go with my dreamfleet baron so I want ot enjoy that for a while and maybe get some time to try out the multiplayer side of things here. I don't feel like being a guinea pig for a new flight sim this time.

Going by the demo - and I know it is only a beta - most of us won't be able to run FSX. At least not at a level where it is enjoyable. I have an AMD64 3200 with 1.5Gb of ram and the demo ran like a real dog. An experience which seems to have been the fate of many who tried it.
From the suggested specs I am seeing floating around, I certainly won't be looking too seriously at it purely from a dollars and cents perspective required to get it running.
FS9 is running really nicely at the moment, so I'll probably give it a couple of years before I'm tempted to try FSX.
It's just a shame that so many developers dropped FS9 development like a hot brick as soon as FSX was announced. HTAI models for example had the AI Piper package nearly ready and in testing, but have now put it on hold until they can work out how to get them to run in FSX.
No stopping progress though I suppose, as long as it is progress. And the jury still seems to be out on that one with both FSX and Windows Vista...

This is an example where I don't understand it.
My PC is AMD64 3200mhz with 1g Ram and 256mb radeon X600 video
and the demo is great. FPS set at 25 and get 20 to 24.5 most of the time.
Why are the PC's giving so sifferent answers.
I also have a 1800mhz AMD which I think also runs the Demo .... OK but not used much to test. Its that one I wanted to put FS9 onto but failed to find cheap version.

Check out Gamesman, and The Warehouse for FS2004 ACOF. 2 of the 3 Warehouses here in Tauranga had them in stock when i was last in there 2 weeks ago. Also, you may find it a Dick Smiths. Noel Leeming has it here as well, a friend bought there 3 weeks ago for $49:95. Also, look online at Trade Me.

FS2000 is regarded as the worst version of Flight Sim ever released. It was a real dog and most simmers could not wait for Fs2002 which actually offered better frame rates.
For sure - upgrade to FS2004 at least !!!

It depends a bit on how well it performs on my computer, but I'm reasonably confident that it will be ok as long as I don't max everything out. When FS9 came out I uninstalled FS8 almost straight away, but I suspect this time I will probably keep FS9 installed for a while until I'm completely used to FSX.

Howdy,
Unfortunately, the option: "Will Play FS9 until such time as am able to afford new hardware to run FSX as it should be run" was not given.
Until such time as I am able to claw my way out of the financial black hole my wedding next year (Feb.) is costing me (rings, new Elizabethan-era costume, new sword, et cetera just ain't cheap), I will continue flying FS9.
So, maybe sometime around June/July 2007, when the hardware to run FSX is commercially available (pre-loaded Vista, DirectX10 compliant Video Card, 2-3 Gb RAM, yada, yada, yada) then I'll think about purchasing it.

Check out Andy Herd's review at Flightsim.com on FSX to see if you still think you voted properly, few of us will be able to run it well. I will stick to FS9 with sliders maxed. FSX with sliders to the left defeats the purpose, all the new goodies won't be visable!
But when I can get a rig to have it maxed I'll be cooking with gas but I fear I'll be only cooking noodles as I won't be able to afford anything else!

he certainly gives it a good review. if we didn't have software to push the limits of hardware, then we'd still be using 386s

I agree Zolt. FSX will be a wee bit ahead of it's time for some, but like the man says, finally a game that utilizes a good GHX cards capabilities. It's just that I don't have one yet! But I will, I just hope it's before FS11 comes out!
I'm looking foward to seeing someone knowledgeable like yourself to post a 'well priced system ot run FSX. I realize it will be a wee while before anyone will know what is neither under or overkill. I'm happy with my sim for now,but will be watching closely. Once Vista gets sorted we'll all have an idea of what we need.
Untill then I'll keep saving!

I'll be running FS9 for a while yet, don't see any need to change as mine is going ok as it is.Vista will have a patch in 12 months, you know ,usual story, microsoft strikes again.I'll give it a couple of years and wait for the smoke to clear, then decide whether or not its going to be worth it,by that time a processor should be out that can handle both Vista and FSX

I'll certainly buy the new vesion Thursday, I have had great results with the demo so am hoping to see how the actual product stacks up.
I also intend ensuring FS9 remains supported and will continue using it as I have it running just how I like it now.

Tried FSX, but in the end I've decided that I get more enjoyment out of FS9 with sliders turned up.
It's all down to frame rates and my computer just ain't up to scratch, (even with tweaks).
I'd rather have smoother flights than 'prettiness' - if you know what I mean.
Besides...I'm having more fun messing about with scenery, composing flightplans for AI etc....and I'm more familiar with FS9 for doing that kind of thing.

Think this poll should be re-started, as it would be diluted by votes more than a year old...
