To anyone with some good thoughts on this subject, I would like to alleviate the problems I am having with FSX, I do not have FSX Acceleration installed, but do have SP1, I am running an Nvidia 8800GTS 320 graphics card on a Intel 2 duo core setup, I have 3 GB Ram with a ASUS 3GHZ CPU / motherboard, but regardless of changing settings, autogen etc, until I'M blue in the face, I still have the problems where I get flickering, especially when I am working from the cockpit, and also, sometimes when I am in the middle of a flight, it then just decides to crash, citing the CPU as the problem, which I have a problem accepting, as this is a fairly good system, which I bought, to make sure that I could run FSX.
I originally had Vista installed, but didn't like it, so I went back to XP, but I am beginning to think that this is still not a good enough system to run this program, which annoys me as I really want this to work, so the question is, what is the best way of setting this SIM up so it goes as it should, FS9 2004 is not a problem to run on this system, just FSX, maybe I need a different Graphics Card, or to buy and install FSX A plane.gif plane.gif cceleration, or maybe I should just give it all up, and go back to flying in the Air Ambulance where I work, and think of something else to do.!!!.

Hi John, try installing SP2 for FSX from www.fsinsider.com - be warned; it's a large download (~300Mb?). SP2 makes a big difference performance-wise, and may also help with some of the problems you list above. smile.gif

Hi John,

want sort of CPU are you running and what sort of motherboard (asus type) as it sound like you have the very same problem i did, i was getting the exactly same issues as you, CTD's poor performance etc, it turned out the my motherboard i had brought was not compatible with the processor, got a different motherboard from a different manufacturer and have not had problem since, infact i am getting much better performance than i expected. hope that helps a little, other than that get sp2 that wil help so much (make sure you install sp1 first)

The flickering in the cockpit is a known issue with FSX,even with sp2 installed.The fix for that is to turn off tooltips in Fsx.That will get rid of white screen that you get also.In AVsim,in the ms fsx forum,Nick N put out a very good article on how to set up your computer and install FSX properly.I followed his advice to the letter and didn't have a problem.considering that but all the rules my system shouldn't even look at FSX.also there is one thing that you can add to your fsx config file

[BUFFERPOOL]
Poolsize=5000000

that 5000000 can be increased to 6 or 7 or more depending on the memory of your video card.all the other tweaks that were used have more or less been taken care of by sp2,I also use a little free program called smart close and that is also worth using.

I know where the FSX CFG file is, but am not sure in which part to insert the bufferpool tweak that you suggested.
