Which version of FSX do you prefer, and why?
Is it worth paying the extra dollars for the Deluxe Edition or not?

in a word, yes
if you don't, you'll miss out on the tower controls and the development tools, plus a couple of aircraft (with the garmin displays)

I'm going to get the Deluxe edition, might as well get the full deal, even if it is a bit more expensive.

Wherever poss I get Deluxe, Special Edition, Collector's Edition etc as I prefer the Definitive Experience.
Besides, more default planes to fly once and forget about! Pure unadulterated bliss gents!
BTW from Amazon's prices we can expect to pay around $112-$120 for Deluxe.

Some bad news, guys.
Well, first some good. Every day of the past fortnight I;ve been patrolling our systems at work, waiting for FSX to be inputted (and thus available for pre-order). That day was today. WOO-HOO! And yes, there is a killer staff discount price as I was hoping!
BUT.
Only FSX Standard is in there. Puzzled, I went onto Gameplanet Store which, I remember from last week, had STD AND Deluxe. Today? Only Standard.
At the suggestion of one of my workmates, I also checked out EB Games. Only Standard.
However, The Gamesman has Standard and Deluxe.
So does this mean that, apart from a couple of specialist stores, most of us won't see the Deluxe edition?

ummmmm... last time i checked there was still 2 months until the release of FSX. i bet most games retailers wouldn't even know there was a deluxe version yet.
http://www.gpstore.co.nz/Games/1519700.htmland its still on GP Store. it just doesn't show up unless you search for "Flight Simulator X" instead of 'flight sim'
so quit your worrying

Yeah, sorry about that. I was going to show my boss the tragedy (

) when I searched for "Flight Simulator" rather than just plain "Flight Sim".

Sorry for the false alarm dudes. My bad.

I notice Harvey Norman's has FSX deluxe for pre-order at only $109, not a bad buy!

The last time MS released a standard and deluxe version was FS2000 (from memory). Most people who only bought standard regreted the decision as they lacked a lot of extras others had. For example most developers had deluxe and therefore a lot of add on planes used gauges from planes only available on the deluxe version...........etc etc.
As the others have said always go deluxe. Whats another $30 or so ?? given that most of us do this as a core hobby.

for the last nail in the coffin for the standard edition:
current GP Store sales ranking:
FSX Standard edition: 401 overall
FSX Deluxe edition: 7 overall
