Just As I thought I had the beast under control, at least to the stage of acceptability, I get the Message that came up with the Demo " The Trail period is over Blah, Blah, Blah and the Sim shuts down. Is this a residue in the system reg. or what. Help Please.

This probably means that it hasn't been activated yet.
Activation may be required more than once -- like Windows XP, you just need to make a couple of hardware changes and you'll have to re-activate.

As an after thought...... Would changing a mouse from PS2 to USB constitute a hardware change

Do you actually choose to activate it? Until it is properly activated it'll limit you to 20 minutes.

If your are having problems activating you don' have to re-install I had a problem a we while back and I just had to do a "Repair Install"
When you put in DVD 1 instead of saying remove select repair

Thanks for your help. I did click yes. The error message said that I had a fault in the installation and needed to be re-installed As far as reinitialising I'll try that in the morning and I'll report back.

Well the repair didn't work. Got so far and declared error 1722. Something wrong with Windows installer. So I guess a complete uninstall-reinstall is the only way to go. What Iv'e seen of the Sim I have enjoyed. When I get it back and running I can then work on curing my sudden restarts that have occured recently. Judging by the feedback on the other forums it appears to be quite a common problem. There doesn't seem to be any one answer to the problem.

Thanks Toprob,
I found that page, did what was instructed and did a repair install but now I cannot activate it. It tells me that a connection cannot be made at the present time and try again later. ( Have Done 3 times since) I have never had so much trouble with a piece of software as I have had with this. When I bought FSX I knew that my system was going to grunt a bit and I was prepared for that but these hassles I am having now I was not expecting. I am wondering what I can do now to get it activated.

......And the saga continues....
I couldn't even get the thing to run deactivated so I thought the best thing to do was uninstall it and try again. the only Plus so far in this saga is that at the moment I gain agout 14 Gigs of Hard disk space. I will tomorrow give it another burl and see what happens.
I am lucky that I am able to count to 10 slooooowly and take big breathes when the occasion arises.
I really can't complain as it only cost $79 on special from one of our big Retailers. That was quite a saving.

Also do anti virus checks. Could possibly be blocking something.(random call but has happened to me before) also try with and without scroll lock. if you still can't get it to work then a full windows install may be necessary
Good Luck

Yeah just imagine how frustrating this would be for the average family where mum/dad have got FSX for there son/daughter, none of whom belong to FS support groups or are very PC savvy ??

The dreaded restart has jumped to my FS 9. Only once though. Fingers crossed that it's an isolated incident.
I haven't reinstalled FSX yet. Too chicken. ...I must..... I Must... It,s a bit like falling off the proverbial horse.
It must be hard for anyone without access to online support. Nowadays buying the product is only the beginning.
I really don't want to do a OS reinstall. But overall it could be the thing to do and clear out 3 years of rubbish.
I do daily virus checks and spyware so I think I am clean

James (ooOO00OOoo) mentioned this but when installing and activating FSX make sure your fire wall is off
