Thought I'd ask those who have tinkered:
FS9 has an issue where at ground level, visibility might be half a mile, then as you climb out, POP! out comes all the scenery, unlimited vis, no sign of fog or haze.
Has this been addressed in FSX?

Yes, with my limited time flying in fsx, even with low weather detail ( 3d clouds, 10percent), in some weather conditions climbing out of cloud or fog the ground will still not be visible.

There are definitely improvements, but still some very unrealistc sightings of the ground. Just a little less common. I'll try and get some screenies.

James is quite right, be interesting to see what he comes up with in terms of screenies.

Last night we had a multiplayer game at NZCH....Real world weather........very low vis....VERY low.........once up above 10,000 the vis was good, but couldn't see NZCH below(under the fog) I jumped into the tower later that night and couldn't see the end of the runway...as the lads descended in to NZCH they were strictly on ILS approach....couldn't see much.

"Qantas 254, welcome to christchurch" (Captain Tim Clark(Zoltuger) slows his 737-800 after touching down in tricky conditions)

I don't have any screen shots from the air sorry.

There was no sudden change in vis, it just slowly adjusted with altitude. Quite real I thought. Jon was in the same aircraft as I (joint cockpit). If I'm not mistaken he was taking video footage of the flight....This may help demonstrate the gentle change in vis. :)

yeah, I'm not convinced- as you say, it slowly adjusted with altitude. Crusing at 15000, you could see parts of the ground but as you got lower it got worse. It was good to do the old instrument approach last night (which explains me being so far off the centre line  )- the weather's been relitively nice recently, making for good real world weather flying

well I said I'd get some screenies, and much to my shock I actuly remembered too :P

I just loaded up on the rwy at nzns and took off for some screenshots, here's the "fogged in" weather theme and we all know what this looks like in fs9!

I'm quite impressed with this, just gotta sort out the fps to actually fly in fsx <_< and work out why my water has suddenly become all pixelated after the reinstall, if the waters messed up what else is :s.
