Well I have been playing further with scenery for FSX, and have come up with this for Rotorua.




Alex, I know this doesn't look anything like the VAS base on the lake, at this stage its just me playing and seeing what I can/can't do, the weird mesh around this area doesn't help.




If people are interested in having a look at this you can download the file HERE. Unzip, put all the files here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery\scenery

FSX will 'see' them and add them to the config when you run FSX.

A bit about this scenery.

It uses all default FSX objects, the people are all animated, as are the flock of seagulls flying overhead. The AF2 file is useful for navigation as the VAS base appears on GPS and makes it a selectable airport. A nav beacon is available to help you get here etc. A heliport is included, everything is night lit by default. Enjoy, I'll post updates as its added to.

It seems to have an extra floating 'H'. Or is that my setup?

Nah, not your setup, thats the AFCAD file, ignore that it will be fixed at some stage before I release this properly

Are the markers actually like this? I wouldn't know, just wondering why port is on the right and not the left and vice versa. Or are they for 'arriving' rather than 'departing'.

No I don't think they exist for real, just look sexy. Unfortunately they wont swap around on departure and arrival, what do you reckon, have them set for leaving or coming back?

You've got them there now, leave them as they are. You are right though, they do look 'sexy'... immersion....

Good safety buoy's for incoming vessels, so they hit the jetty square on for maximum damage....

You got it, 'line up between the buoy's and gun it'!

Nice flythrough action...your frame rates don't look too bad either, considering you have video capture overhead.
Big question now is: what shall we do with the RealNZ Rotorua installation??

They do have buoys marking the path for the lakeland queen to get out into the lake (they have to dredge the path every now and then), but the planes just take-off wherever they want to . (the buoys are about half the size of the ones there, but its not a bad likeness, and they do have lights on them)

Cool stuff Jon, looks a little like an Alaskan bush lodge thing with the trees, but still really cool.

You keep it This is for default FSX scenery, once a FSX patch comes for robins scenery I will make a separate version for that.

Frames: Yesh, I was also running outlook and paintshop pro, so I was reasonably happy.

The alaskan look, yeah agree totally. I will change things somewhat I think once I get the proper buildings made that I used your photos for.

Hmm, and there seems to be a large-ish hill where the (flat) government gardens are .

Ah well, you can't win 'em all I spose.
