I'll make this short and sweet because I don't want to post too much if I'm in the wrong place.....I administer another (unrelated) forum and I know how annoying it can be!
My situation is: I have some basic flight sim experience, but very little....from FS 98 I think it was. Now I have FSX on it's way to me and I have a reasonable system on which to play it. As I'm sure you can imagine I am going to have questions that I'm sure have been answered many times before....so....is there a place where I can review the basics?.....and FAQ perhaps?.....or is there a place that I should post to rather than here?
Thanks for any help
RJ
Hi RJ welcome to NZFF if you have a look at the rules and then go to New Zealand Flightsim Forums and you will see all the topics and what each one is for and you can post in the appropriate one for the subject you are posting about.

And we have an "Ian Warren", who, once you learn his language, is a mine of information too!!![]()
Have a great time and ask away!
Matt
Thank you Matt
First question(s), and I know this has been asked before, but I seem to be getting conflicting answers depending on which link I click on in google! My sim is FSX and I need to add SP1 and SP2.....correct? Also I understand that the Acceleration Expansion Pack is no longer available.....is that a big deal for me?
Obviously I need to spend time learning to fly and navigate before I worry too much about some of the great scenery etc that I see people using, but I guess to get the SP and/or Expansion pack issue sorted would be a good start!
Cheers,
RJ
Ian Warren wrote:QUOTE (Ian Warren @ May 10 2013,4:44 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>RJ , you can get the service packs with Acceleration via http://www.fspilotshop.com/flight-simulato...ion-p-1792.html .. cheapest i have found , with this you do get a second copy of FSX but makes it very much easier to install , this one currently on special .
Thank you Ian......do I really need the Acceleration Pack?

The service packs come with and so much easier to install rather the frag'n around with downloads if you still can get them , have not checked on that .. but once installed you can then choose exactly what suits you , all FSX addons require this .. you still can save the moneys and source a free D/L of the SP's but end of the day .. so much easier just to throw a Disk in and done .

Ok...I understand. Thanks Ian

Well sometimes you'll come across an addon that actually does need accleration. From my personal experience these addons are likely to be military aircraft. So if you are into military planes, I'd say it is more of a need than a want. Acceleration does little for me, but I got it on special so "why not" sort of thing. But otherwise, no, it's most definitely not needed, and should be seen purely as an expansion pack due to the fact that the important updates can be found by other means.
And yes, welcome to the forum. Don't worry about asking a million questions if you have them, many of us take great pleasure in helping people new or returning to simming. I've not been able to escape it over 10 years now personally
Ah ok.....I see...thank you. I'm not really into military stuff too much, although I used to love EF2000 some years agoNzeddy wrote:QUOTE (Nzeddy @ May 10 2013,6:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>You can land and takeoff (catapult) on aircraft carries with Acceleration.
Thanks....for now I think simply landing (on the ground) will be an achievement...lol

Yeah.....I still have the CD and manual here....one day when I have nothing to do I'll have to track down some DOS disks and set it up again......nothing like shooting up St Petersburg over a cup of coffee!!
