I dont like the amount of tyre smoke it puts out - it can be so bad that on AI aircraft the whole plane is engulfed in tyre smoke!

is there a way I can restrict the amount of smoke?

The first stop would be to check avsim for a modified effect file....I'm pretty sure it has been done a lot.
Otherwise, you can have a go at modifying the effect file itself by reducing the dimensions of the effect texture

you should see the amount that comes off some 'for real!'

no that picture is not so bad - its more when an AI dash 8 lands and all you can see is a whole lot of smoke and no aircraft for a few seconds
